A 22-year-old man was killed in the Live Oak area of Santa Cruz County this weekend. Omar Alejandro Lopez was sitting in a car near 17th avenue and Rodriguez Street at 12:50 a.m. Saturday, when somebody approached the vehicle and began shooting. Lopez was in the passenger seat, and was driven to a gas station by another person in the car, who was not shot. Lopez was pronounced dead at the gas station. Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s investigators are trying to determine the motive of the shooting, and they believe Lopez was specifically targeted. They do not have any suspects in the case.

A 28-year-old man was shot multiple times near downtown Santa Cruz Sunday morning. The victim had a confrontation with another man, and the incident led to gunshots being fired just after 2 a.m. The victim was air-lifted to a trauma center, where he was in stable condition Sunday evening. No arrests have been made in the case.

A man was shot in Santa Cruz Sunday evening, and police do not have any suspects. The attack occurred at 6:15 p.m., on the 100 block of Park Place in the Beach Flats neighborhood. Several shots were fired in the incident, and the victim was struck in the back of the leg as he ran away. After arriving at Domincan Hospital, the victim was flown to a trauma center in Santa Clara County, with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. The shooter fled in an unidentified vehicle, and has not been located.

Cal-trans officials have announced that work being done on Highway-9 should be completed this week. The project involved building a retaining wall and improving the drainage in the area, which is near Felton, (about 2-miles north of the Highway-1 intersection. The work is expected to be completed this Friday, and the roadway is scheduled to re-open by 6 p.m., next Friday, October 1st.
