GILROY SUSPECT BEING SOUGHT 09-27-10 10:40 a.v.

Police in Gilroy are searching for a suspect in an early morning stabbing today. Officers responded to the 200 block of Loupe Court, near Las Animas Veterans Park just after 5 a.m., and located a 68-year old man suffering from stab wounds to his upper torso and wrists. The stabbing suspect, a short Hispanic man between 50 and 60 years of age, was last seen running north. Anyone with any information is asked to call the crime tip line at 1-800-782-7463.

K.C. WEAPONS ARREST 09-27-10 09:20 a.v.

A 31-year old King City man was arrested last night following a routine traffic stop. David Ortiz was stopped just before 8 p.m. when officers discovered the smell of alcohol coming from inside the car. Upon searching the vehicle, officers found metal brass knuckles, and a loaded .22 caliber handgun. Ortiz was booked into Monterey County Jail.

HWY 68 UNDERPASS 09/27/10 0700 E.A.

A STUDY THAT HAS RECENTLY BEEN RELEASED BY THE BIG SUR LAND TRUST REVEALS THAT WILDLIFE RELIES ON AN UNDERPASS BENEATH HIGHWAY 68 TO TRAVEL BETWEEN NATURAL RESERVES. CAMERAS PLACED ON EITHER SIDE OF THE UNDERPASS SHOWED THAT ANIMALS INCLUDING MOUNTAIN LIONS, GRAY FOXES AND COYOTES WERE TRAVELING THROUGH THE UNDERPASS TO CROSS BETWEEN FORT ORD NATURAL RESERVE, MARKS RANCH, AND TORO COUNTY PARK. THE LAND TRUST CONDUCTED THE STUDY FROM OCTOBER 2008, TO OCTOBER OF 2009.

A CONDOMINIUM PROJECT IN CARMEL IS FACING OPPOSITION BY A NEIGHBORHOOD GROUP. AN ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT HAS BEEN COMPLETED ON THE PROPOSED VILLAS DE CARMELO PROJECT'S LIKELY EFFECTS ON ISSUES SUCH AS TRAFFIC AND WATER. THE SAVE OUR CARMEL NEIGHBORHOODS COALITION OPPOSES THE 46-UNIT PROJECT, CITING THE ENVIORNMENTAL IMPACT REPORT IS FULL OF ERRORS AND CONTRIDICTIONS. AFTER A REVISED REPORT IS COMPLETED, THE PROJECT IS SLATED TO UNDERGO REVIEW BY THE COUNTY PLANNING COMMISION.

K.C. VEGETATION FIRE 09-27-10 08:00 a.v.

A vegetation fire was reported yesterday about 15 miles northeast of King City near the intersection of Lonoak Road and State Route 25. Approximately 5 acres of grass and brush along Lonoak were already engulfed in flames when fire crews responded. Retardant was dropped to slow the spread of the fire until ground resources arrived to complete containment. State Route 25 was closed for about 20 minutes during retardant drops. No structures were threatened, and an investigation into the cause of the blaze continues.
