A Salinas teen, who was fatally shot this morning in East Salinas, has been identified. The Monterey County Coroner’s office has identified 17-year old Ulises Jacobo-Corona as the victim who was fatally shot at 8:18 a.m. by 2 men who walked up and opened fire while he and another teen were walking on the 1200 block of Del Monte Avenue near the intersection of Towt Street. Jacobo-Corona was pronounced dead at the scene. Several area schools were placed on lockdown for about 20 minutes after today’s fatal shooting, which marks the city’s 13th homicide of the year. Police are searching for a 90's Honda Accord with tinted windows, which is believed to be used during the gang-related shooting. The car was last seen going southbound on Towt Street.

After a preliminary hearing today, a Salinas sergeant will stand trial on embezzlement charges after he stole thousands of dollars from his mother. The preliminary hearing ended today for Sergeant Jay Malispina, who is being charged with stealing over $40,000 from his mother after he reportedly tricked her into giving him authority over her finances and then wrote checks to himself. The trial is slated to begin on November 3rd.

Santa Cruz County supervisors unanimously agreed today to incorporate regulations that will permit marijuana dispensaries to sell the drug to prescription users in unincorporated communities. The vote also includes a moratorium on any new dispensaries until rules are drafted and adopted. Among some of the concerns among county officials include where dispensaries should be allowed, whether they should be permitted to advertise and who should supply the marijuana they sell. Supervisors expect to have a draft ordinance for public review by November 9th.

A 51-year old woman was arrested last night on suspicion of D.U.I., after the car she was driving hit a motorcycle outside Watsonville. The 6:10 p.m. fatal accident occurred on Carlton Road, just south of Thompson Road, when the driver of the 1992 Camry, Maria Villegas De Munoz struck the 49-year old Aromas man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s 15-year old son (who was on the back of the bike during the time of the crash), was transported to Watsonville Hospital. The cause of the fatal crash remains under investigation.
