A NEW STUDY BY “HEAL THE BAY” WAS RELEASED TODAY. IT SHOWED THAT 92 PERCENT OF CALIFORNIA’S BEACHES HAD GOOD-TO-EXCELLENT WATER QUALITY THIS PAST SUMMER. THAT WAS BASED ON WATER QUALITY TESTS TAKEN AT MORE THAN 450 BEACHES BETWEEN MEMORIAL DAY AND LABOR DAY.

The body of a santa cruz county man who was found this week in a wooded portion of soquel has been identified. 51 year-old Live Oak resident Robert Burr is believed to have been murdered in his home, before his body was taken to where it was found, off Laurel Glen Road. Anyone with any information about this murder is encouraged to contact the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Department.

PEOPLE WHO WENT TO THE D.M.V. TODAY (WEDNESDAY), TO GET A NEW LICENSE, LIKELY HAD TO STAND IN REALLY LOOONG LINES. THAT’S BECAUSE A STATEWIDE COMPUTER GLITCH AFFECTED SOME OF THE NEWLY INSTALLED CAMERAS (AND FINGER PRINTING MACHINES). THE ISSUE WAS REPORTEDLY CAUSED BY A HARDWARE MALFUNCTION AT THE SACRAMENTO HEADQUARTERS, AND WAS FIXED THIS AFTERNOON.

A TREE THAT FELL ON POWER LINES IN SOUTH MONTEREY COUNTY TODAY SPARKED A 5-ACRE BRUSH FIRE. THE BLAze occurred near arroyo seca road, and the los padres national forest. No structures were threatened, and no injuries were reported.
