A routine traffic stop in Watsonville led to the arrest of a 15-year old boy Saturday night. Officers discovered the boy was driving without a license in a car he had taken from his mother without her consent. He was pulled over on San Juan Road near Allison Road for driving without headlights. Authorities say the teen’s 2-year old sister was also in the vehicle and not properly secured. With him were 2 other teens. The boy was also found in possession of marijuana. He was booked into Monterey County Juvenile Hall.

A gang-sweep in south Monterey county over the weekend netted 6-arrests. 4-police departments conducted the joint-sweep, in Gonzales, Soledad, King City, and Greenfield. The 6 arrests were made Saturday night, for charges including drug possession and gang participation.

A free talk on Genetically Modified Food is scheduled to take place in Live Oak tonight(mon). Author and consumer advocate Jeffery M. Smith will host the lecture, titled “Understanding Genetically Modified Organisms and their Current Impact on our Health and the Environment.” The discussion is sponsored by New Leaf Markets, and is set to run from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight, at the Live Oak Grange, which is at 19-hundred 17th Avenue. Santa Cruz has been recognized as a great place to go to college. The city was ranked 8th in the "small cities" category of the annual “College Destinations Index,” released by the American Institute for Economic Research. 222 metropolitan areas were evaluated for criteria including student diversity, cost of living, arts and leisure, and unemployment rate. Santa Cruz ranked 8th, ahead of 12 other small cities, including santa Barbara and Honolulu.
