Verizon Cell Tower 10/05/10 0800 E.A.

A cell phone tower has been proposed for the city of Watsonville. The city Planning Commission will hear the proposal by Verizon Wireless for a tower on Grove Street tonight at their meeting. Verizon is proposing an installation of 3 additional antennae to a 70-foot monopole located at 11 Grove Street.

Metro Green Grant 10/05/10 0800 E.A.

A grant has been awarded that will help the Santa Cruz METRO Bus Fleet move closer to being 100 percent green. The 4.8 million dollar grant comes from the Federal Transit Administration's “State of Good Repair” program. The Santa Cruz METRO will use the grant to replace 12 diesel buses with buses that run on natural gas. Of its fleet of 93 buses, about a dozen diesel buses remain, which will be used mostly as backup for the natural gas fleet.

21 YEAR-OLD HOLLISTER MAN RECOVERING - 10/04/10 19:10 S.S.

A  21  YEAR-OLD  MAN  IS  EXPECTED  TO  RECOVER  FROM  HIS  WOUNDS.     THAT  AFTER  HE  WAS  BEATEN  AND  STABBED  FRIDAY  NIGHT  IN  HOLLISTER.       THE  11:30  P.M.  ATTACK  REPORTEDLY  OCCURRED  NEAR  THE  INTERSECTION  OF  PINE  AND  SOUTH  STREETS,   AND  ANYONE  WITH  ANY  INFORMATION  ABOUT  THE  INCIDENT  IS  ENCOURAGED  TO  CONTACT  THE  HOLLISTER  POLICE DEPARTMENT.

SUDDEN OAK DEATH HELP - 10/04/10 18:46 S.S.

SCIENTISTS  ARE  ASKING  FOR  THE  PUBLIC’S  ASSISTANCE  IN  TRACKING  A  DISEASE  THAT  IS  KILLING  OAK  TREES.     FOR  THE PAST  2  YEARS  RESIDENTS  HAVE  BEEN  SENDING  IN  SAMPLES  OF  TREES  THEY  BELIEVE  HAVE  BEEN  IMPACTED  BY  SUDDEN  OAK  DEATH.     NOW  SCIENTISTS  ARE  RENEWING  THAT  CALL,   AS  THEY  CONTINUE  TO  WORK  TO  DETERMINE  HOW  TO  STOP  THE  PATHOGEN  FROM  BEING  TRANSMITTED  THROUGH  HOST  PLANTS AND   WATER.

TEEN INJURED, FIRE, POWER OUTAGE - 10/04/10 18:43 S.S.

A  17  YEAR-OLD  SUFFERED  MODERATE  INJURIES,   WHEN  THE  CAR  THE  TEEN  WAS  DRIVING  STRUCK  A  POWER  POLE  SUNDAY  AFTERNOON  IN  FELTON.   THE  TEEN  WAS  TRANSPORTED  TO  DOMINICAN  HOSPITAL,  WHILE  EMERGENCY  PERSONNEL  PUT  OUT  THE  SMALL  BRUSH  FIRE  THAT  WAS  SPARKED OFF  WHEN  THE  POWER  LINES  CAME  DOWN.   14  P.G. & E.  CUSTOMERS  WERE  WITHOUT POWER OVERNIGHT  AFTER  THE  1:20  P.M.  SUNDAY  ACCIDENT.
