Police in Marina arrested 2 people Monday after a shotgun was found during a traffic stop. 20-year old Jesus Soto was arrested after he was pulled over at around 10:15 p.m. on the 200 block of Reservation Road on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and resisting arrest. 19-year old Shyanne Rist was also taken into custody on suspicion of delaying officers and possession of marijuana.

An alleged gang member from Patterson was arrested for possessing a weapon after a routine traffic stop over the weekend in Santa Cruz. Police say Juan Barone Garcia was one of 4 passengers in a 2000 Chevy Silverado that was pulled over on Soquel Avenue near Hagemann Avenue around 3 a.m. Sunday morning for having a modified exhaust on the truck. Police discovered a loaded handgun inside the pickup where Garcia had been sitting. Garcia also admitted to being a gang-member.

After a Watsonville/Gilroy man was arrested for allegedly raping a teen girl, a 2nd victim has come forward reporting similar charges. A seasonal firefighter with Santa Clara County Cal-Fire, 30-year old Lamar James Lucero was arrested last month after police say he manipulated and threatened a 16-year old to perform various sex acts for about one year. Lucero was booked on multiple charges including suspicion of rape, and unlawful sexual intercourse. Lucero was arrested Monday at the Santa Cruz County Courthouse, where he was being arraigned on the 1st arrest, after an adult came forward and told police he raped her in 2009. He was arrested again for the 2nd crime.

Federal funding has been awarded to Santa Cruz Community Credit Union. According to the president of the Credit Union Board, the just over 2.8 million dollars will allow local entrepreneurs, small businesses and those wishing to purchase affordable housing, to receive the funding from the U.S. Treasury. The federal funds are expected to push the credit union’s capital ratio close to 12%. Santa Cruz Community Credit Union is said to be the only institution in Santa Cruz County that qualifies for the federal funding due to it’s designation of serving low-income communities.
