APTOS DUI ARREST 10-07-10 17:30 a.v.

A Santa Cruz man was arrested after rear-ending a car on Highway-1 in Aptos early this morning. The C-H-P reported that Yunior A Mi Jangos Carrera was driving a Ford Focus at a high rate of speed just after 3 a.m. south of Freedom Boulevard, when he struck a Ford Escort. Carrera, who was airlifted to a Santa Clara County hospital with abdominal injuries, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver of the Escort, was not injured.

SEASIDE BAR STABBING/ARREST 10-07-10 17:00 a.v.

A 41-year old man was stabbed multiple times at a Seaside bar this week. Officers responded to the Sportsmen Bar at 9:26 p.m. Tuesday night after bar patrons said a man had been stabbed by another bar patron in the neck and stomach following a verbal altercation. The suspect, who was identified as 62-year old Austin Cepeda, was arrested on attempted murder charges. The victim, meanwhile, was treated at a local hospital for his wounds.

SEASIDE SELECTED FOR 2011 AMGEN BIKE RACE 10-07-10 16:30 a.v.

The city of Seaside has been selected as one of the host cities for the 2011 Amgen Tour of California.   race organizers announced today that the bike race, which is slated to start at Lake Tahoe on May 15th, will end Thousand Oaks on May 22nd.   Stage 5 of the race is scheduled for May 19th and starts in Seaside and ends in Paso Robles.   The route is expected to go down the Pacific Coast Highway down through Big Sur.  For a complete schedule of the race, visit www.amgentourofCalifornia.com.

FORMER FORT ORD BURN - updated 10/07/10 16:20 a.v.

A prescribed burn that began this morning on the Former Fort Ord, is now complete. Roughly 110 acres burned today at Burn Unit 21. The Presidio of Monterey Fire Department is said to be monitoring the area, and the monitoring is expected to continue through tomorrow morning. A 2nd prescribed burn at Burn Unit 15 (about 167 acres) may take place tomorrow, weather permitting. Officials recommend that if you live on or near the Former Fort Ord, to close your windows through tomorrow morning. For more information, check their website at w w w fort ord clean up dot com.

SOLEDAD FATAL SHOOTING ID - 10/07/10 J.M.

THE VICTIM OF A FATAL SHOOTING LAST NIGHT IN SOLEDAD HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS VICTOR MARTINEZ. THE 5:30 P.M. INCIDENT OCCURRED AT THE INTERSECTION OF PALM AND 7TH STREETS WHEN AN UNKNOWN MAN SHOT MARTINEZ WHILE HE WAS SITTING IN A VAN. ANYONE WITH ANY INFORMATION IS ENCOURAGED TO CONTACT THE SOLEDAD POLICE DEPARTMENT.
