Not guilty plea, Burr murder 10/08/10 4pm TDH

A Santa Cruz County man accused of killing his former roommate, pleaded not guilty today(FRI) to homicide charges.    49-year-old Louis Nicholas Kusalich waived his right to a speedy trial, and is slated to return to court on October 20th for a preliminary hearing.   He remains jailed on 750-thousand dollars bail.   Kusalich is charged with killing his roommate at the time, 51-year-old Robert Burr.   Burr’s body was found in Soquel on September 28th.

DOUBLE AMBER ALERT 10-08-10 11:30 a.v.

A statewide Amber Alert was issued today in the Los Angeles area. Police believe a father and grandfather abducted 2 young boys from the Anaheim apartment complex where they lived with their mother. Police are searching for 4-year old Jacob Quinones and 2-year old Justin Quinones after they were last seen Thursday night at around 8 p.m. when they were taken by 2 men in a 2009 or 2010 Dodge Caravan van, silver, gray or pewter in color, with tinted windows. Police have identified the men as 23-year old Abraham Fernandez and his Father, 52-year old Louis Mendoza Fernandez.

SEASIDE DOM. VIOLENCE CONVICTION 10-08-10 10:50 a.v.

A Seaside man is expected to face up to one year in jail after he was convicted today on multiple offenses. 52-year old Ronald McAlmond, was convicted on one count of battery, one count of interference with a wireless communication device, and one count of resisting arrest after a verbal altercation surfaced between McAlmond and his wife in July. McAlmond is slated to be sentenced on October 13th.

GRENADES FOUND IN P.B. HOME 10-08-10 10:50 a.v.

A probation search at a Pebble Beach home yesterday, led to the discovery of dozens of hand grenades. The Monterey Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded after 37-inert military practice hand grenades were found at the Sloat Road home of 48-year old Joe Beverdine. The military contraband was found after a vehicle check conducted on Beverdine’s vehicle Tuesday in the Travel Lodge Motel parking lot, produced an altered practice hand grenade, causing the motel to be evacuated as a result. Beverdine is currently in custody pending trial.

FBI ARRESTS LOCAL TALK SHOW HOST 10-08-10 10:30 a.v.

The former president of A-P-S funding and radio talk show host, was arrested yesterday by the F-B-I for alleged securities frauds, money laundering and other criminal charges. 63-year old Barbra Alexander, along with 2 others, were indicted Wednesday on 43-criminal counts by a Federal Grand Jury in San Jose. Alexander, who owned mortgage and investment companies in Monterey, has been charged by the Securities and Exchange Commission with misappropriating 2.5 million dollars from local investors. Alexander is known for her internationally syndicated weekly radio show on KION-AM, “MoneyDots”.
