Watsonville Police arrested a bank robber on Saturday, after the man held up a bank on Main Street. 19-year-old (Las Lomas Resident) Larry Ramirez is accused of threatening a teller at the Comerica Bank with a broken bottle, and fleeing with cash. An officer spotted Ramirez escaping, and he was taken into custody shortly afterward. The money was recovered.
A Saturday night wild-fire at Lake Nacimiento (near San Miguel) was contained, after scorching 2-hundred acres. Fire crews had the flames contained at around midnight, and remained on the scene Sunday to monitor the area. One person was cited for causing the fire, which investigators believe was ignited when a pick-up truck drove the dry brush and grass.
9-years in the making, the Monterey County Superior Court is finally set to open its renovated North Wing tomorrow(Tues). The 71.6-million dollar project began with a simple plan to update the building with seismic reinforcements, however costs soared and plans were delayed after several setbacks, including the release of asbestos during demolition. The new north wing will house 11-courtrooms.
A teenager was shot in the leg in Salinas on Sunday. The boy was taken to a local hospital, after being shot near Fairview Avenue and Harryette Drive. Police have not made any arrests in the 5:30 p.m. incident.
A man died after a fatal motorcycle accident in Soledad Sunday. C-H-P investigators are trying to determine the cause of the 4 p.m. crash, which occurred on Camphora Gloria Road. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
