ALLEGED RAPIST ARRESTED - 10/12/10 09:58 S.S.

A  31  YEAR-OLD  MAN  HAS  BEEN  ARRESTED  FOR  ALLEGEDLY  RAPING  A  WOMAN  IN  CARMEL  VALLEY.    JHONI  ABRAHAM  FUNES IS  ACCUSED  OF  REPEATEDLY  RAPING  THE  WOMAN  OVER  A  2-YEAR  SPAN,   WHILE  TELLING  HER  HE  WOULD  NOTIFY  AUTHORITIES  OF  HER  ILLEGAL  IMMIGRANT  STATUS  IF  SHE  REPORTED  THE  ABUSE.  FUNES WAS  BOOKED  INTO  MONTEREY COUNTY  JAIL.

Panoche Valley Solar Plant 10/12/10 0800 E.A.

A decision on whether or not a large solar plant will be built in the Panoche Valley is scheduled for the Hollister City Council meeting today. The proposed solar plant is planned to be 7 times larger than any other solar plant in the world. The plant is expected to generate enough power to light about 30,000 homes.

Gavilan Grant for First Year Students 10/12/10 0800 E.A.

A grant has been awarded to Gavilan College to help launch a program to increase student success during the first year of college for Hispanic and low-income students. The grant, which would provide 650-thousand dollars annually for the next 5 years, has been provided by the United States Department of Education and will fund a 2-part project. The first part of the project will develop new instructional strategies and the second part will allow the college to easily assess and guide the incoming students during the first year.

SALINAS CHOIR WINS REGIONAL -10/12/10 07:01 S.S.

A  SALINAS  CHOIR  HAS  BEEN  NAMED  THE  BEST  SMALL  CHOIR  IN  NORTHERN  CALIFORNIA.    THAT  AFTER  A  REGIONAL  CONTEST  WAS  HELD  SATURDAY  IN  OAKLAND.     SALINAS’  APOSTOLIC  COMMUNITY  LIFE  CENTER  CHOIR WAS  CHOSEN  OVER  A  HAYWARD  CHOIR.  THAT  WIN  MEANS  THAT  THE  SALINAS  CHOIR  WILL  ADVANCE  TO  NEXT  MONTH’S  NATIONAL  FINALS.
