SOQUEL VAN FIRE 10-13-10 07:30 a.v.

The cause of a single-vehicle accident that left a van engulfed in flames in Soquel yesterday, is still being investigated. Fire crews responded to the scene at Soquel Drive and Aguazul Drive just before 8:30 p.m. after the driver of a white van allegedly hit a light pole, ricocheted across the street striking a tree in the center divider then skidding across the street again where the van then hit another light pole. The driver of the van was taken to Dominican Hospital. The northbound lane of Soquel Drive was closed for about an hour.

SALINAS YOUTH ADVISOR FACES SEX CHARGES 10-13-10 06:30 a.v.

Sexual charges have been filed against a Salinas police youth program advisor. 28-year old Scott Callan faces 14-counts of sex abuse after molesting a child through his work with the department. Callan, who was arrested last Wednesday, the same day the allegations surfaced, is expected to be arraigned tomorrow.

HWY 68 HEAD ON CRASH 10-13-10 06:30 a.v.

2 men and 3 children suffered injuries after a head-on collision on Highway 68 last night in Salinas. The just before 5 p.m. crash occurred when a Ford Mustang, driven by a 33-year old Marina man, was traveling westbound when he crossed over into the Eastbound lane striking a Chevy Silverado. The driver of the truck, a 48-year old Salinas man along with a 4-year old girl and a 2-year old boy from the Mustang, were taken to Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. The driver of the Mustang and an 11-year old boy were airlifted to a San Jose trauma center. The road was closed 4 an hour, the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the collision.

TORCHED VEHICLE INFO. – UPDATE 10-13-10 06:00 a.v.

A body found inside the trunk of a torched vehicle over the weekend, has been identified as a Greenfield woman. Firefighters discovered the body, which was reportedly burned beyond recognition, after they responded to a report of a car fire in the area of Priest Valley off Highway 198 between San Lucas and Coalinga Sunday just after 8 p.m. Fire crews found the body inside the trunk of the 2010 Honda sedan. The car was registered to Yvette Martinez, who has been reported missing since Saturday. The woman’s identity is still awaiting confirmation following autopsy results. Investigators are treating the case as a homicide.

HOLLISTER TACO BELL ROBBERY ARREST 10-12-10 18:30 a.v.

A juvenile already in custody has been charged with an armed robbery that took place in August at a Hollister fast food restaurant. 2 men entered the Taco Bell on San Felipe Road August 4th when one of the men took out a rifle and demanded money. On October 5th a 14-year old juvenile, who was arrested after an armed robbery occurred at a McCray Street Taqueria, was discovered to be the same 14-year old sought in the Taco Bell robbery. The juvenile, who was a member of a local street gang, was charged with robbery, conspiracy and gang enhancements. Meanwhile, the 2nd person involved in the Taco Bell robbery is still being sought.
