WATSONVILLE STORE STABBING 10-31-10 19:15 a.v.

A Watsonville store clerk was hospitalized over the weekend while trying to prevent a robbery from taking place. Police say a group of up to 10 people walked into the Freedom Boulevard convenience store around 1 a.m. Saturday, when 2 males tried to run out of the store with beer. 2 store employees tried to stop the men, which then led to a verbal confrontation and a stabbing. No arrests have been made, anyone with information is asked to call the crime tip line at 831-728-3544.

CAPITOLA BANK ROBBERY 10-31-10 19:00 a.v.

Capitola police are investigating a Bank robbery that took place over the weekend. The 11:40 a.m. incident occurred Saturday when a suspect entered the Bank of the West on the 3800 of Capitola Road and demanded cash from the teller. The man then stole an undisclosed amount of cash after pushing the clerk out of the way and opening the cash drawer. Witnesses say a man was seen nearby after the robbery, offering $1,000 for a ride to Santa Cruz. Anyone with information is asked to call the Capitola police 831-475-2791.

W.v. stabbing arrest 10/29/10 TDH

Watsonville police made an arrest on friday in an attempted homicide case.   Ricardo rodriguez is accused of stabbing the victim as many as 14-times, in an attack on quinn avenue on october 24th.  Rodriguez was taken into custody outside of his home, and was booked into santa cruz county jail on attempted murder charges, along with participation in a criminal street gang.

Man surrenders, revenge attack 10/29/10 tdh

A san francisco man surrendered to santa clara county authorities on friday, six months after assaulting a former priest in los gatos.   44-year-old william lynch allegedly targeted the 65-year-old former reverend because he had sexually abused lynch in 1975. Witnesses say lynch beat the man, jerold linder, at the sacred heart jesuit center in los gatos, last may. Linder was hospitalized with bruises, lynch is facing charges of assault with means of force likely to produce great bodily injury. Lynch won a confidential settlement, in a 1997 civil suit against jerold linder.   Linder was removed from active ministry, and was transferred to the los gatos jesuit center in 2002.

CalWorks Cuts Suspended 10/29/10 5pm TDH

State subsidies for child care assistance were temporarily re-instated today, overturning Governor Schwarzenegger’s cuts to the program.   The governor had used his line-item veto power to cut 256-million dollars from Cal-Works, affecting about 55-thousand families in California.   Democrats had opposed the move, and a judge ordered a temporary restaining order on the cuts, until a hearing is held on the matter next Thursday.  The cuts had been set to go into effect on Monday.
