S.C. HALLOWEEN ARRESTS 11-01-10 07:20 a.v.

Over 100 police officers in Santa Cruz were on hand last night when over 20,000 people gathered downtown for the Halloween festivities. Police officials say 30 arrests were made by 11:30 p.m. mostly for alcohol-related violations. A fight was reported at about 9:45 p.m. on Pacific Avenue, one person suffered a broken nose in that incident. Police say the atmosphere of the event shifted when a gang-presence was noted by 10 p.m. A triple fine zone was in full force last night for open containers, defacing public property and noise violations.

CANNERY ROW ARREST/STABBING 11-01-10 06:30 a.v.

2 Castroville men were arrested early yesterday morning on Cannery Row following a stabbing that injured 3 people. Police responded to the Blue Fin Café and Billiards on Cannery Row shortly before 1:30 a.m., to find 3 men suffering from stab wounds. Police arrested 32-year old Frank Delgado and 24-year old Anthony Paulsell in connection with the incident. The 3-injured men were taken to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula for treatment.

NO PLEA IN WVILLE STORE OWNER MURDER 11-01-10 05:30 a.v.

A 17-year old charged with killing a Watsonville grocery store owner, refrained from entering a plea Friday. Christian Speaker is accused of fatally shooting the owner of the Fiesta Latino Market, Yahya Ahmed during a robbery nearly 2-weeks ago. Speaker is expected to be tried as an adult, however special circumstance allows for the death penalty, which was being considered but because of his age, prosecutors are leaning towards life in prison without parole instead. Speaker is due back in court this Friday.

WANTED K.C. MAN ARRESTED 10-31-10 21:40 a.v.

A man wanted in a 2005 King City shooting was taken into custody last week near Merced following a high-speed chase. 34-year old Juan Carlos Valenzuela was arrested Friday for an attempted murder warrant in Monterey County for a drive-by shooting. Valenzuela, was one of 4 suspects connected in the incident, three others have already pleaded guilty. Valenzuela is being held in Merced County Jail and is expected to return to Monterey County; he also faces charges of reckless driving and felony driving under the influence in Merced County.

P.V. ROADWORK DELAYS 10-31-10 21:20 a.v.

Possible traffic delays are expected to start after road work in the Pajaro Valley area begins tomorrow. Crews working on building an interchange at Salinas Road and Highway 1, will be installing temporary concrete barriers from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. lasting until the end of this week. Motorists travSouth may expect 20-minute delays, while those heading north on Highway-1, are said to take Highway 129 as an alternative.

 

Meanwhile, at the Airport Boulevard and Green Valley and Holohan Roads intersections, replacement of a traffic signal and pavement improvement may delay motorists for up to 30 minutes between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. through December 3rd.
