Free Van Rides on Veteran's Day 11/03/10 0800 E.A.

Free van rides to the San Joaquin Valley Cemetery in Santa Nella will be offered to veterans and their families this Saturday, Veteran's Day. The program is being run by volunteers and is organized by the Monterey County Military and Veteran's Affairs Office. The van stops in Monterey, Sand City, Marina, and Salinas, but can make stops in other places. The van is expected to depart around 9 A.M. On Saturday. To reserve a spot on the van, contact Joan Roberts at the Monterey County Military and Veteran's Affairs Office.

San Benito County Election Results - 11/03/10

In San Benito County:

Voters have chosen Darren Thompson as the new Sheriff-Coroner, while Jerry Muenzer will serve as the 4th District Supervisor,  and Jolene  Cosio,  Tony Boch, and Andy Moore have been elected to the San Juan Bautista City Council.

 

On the Hollister City council Sergio Montanez  will serve in District 2,  while Pauline Valdivia will represent District 3.

 

Schools

 

Walter A Glines will be the Trustee for Area 1,   while incumbent Kent L. Child, and newcomer Tony Ruiz, will serve in Trustee Area 3,  of the Gavilan Joint Community College District.

 

Incumbent Mary Encinas, along with newcomers Bill Tiffany and Tim Shellito, will serve as Board Members of  the San Benito Joint Union High School District.

 

In the Hollister School District the new Board members will be Michael Query,  Joe Navarro, and  Elsa A. Rodriguez.

 

Incumbents Bob Tiffany, Scott A. Gilbert, Jeanne Liem will serve as Board members on the Southside School District, while the new Board members of the Willow Grove Union School District  will be Carole Greenwald-Aldrich and Joe Van Order.

SALINAS B-DAY PARTY SHOOTING 11-03-10 07:00 a.v.

Police in Salinas responded to a shooting that occurred while a birthday party was taking place yesterday. A 15-year old girl and an 18-year old man were hospitalized after suffering gunshot wounds during the 9 p.m. incident on the 1,000 block of Sieber Street. Police say 2 suspects walked up, made gang-related comments to a group of people standing in front of the home where the party was taking place, and then opened fire on the group.

Monterey County Water, Hospital, and Airport Districts – 11/03/10 S.S.

In the Aromas Water District  incumbents  Bonnie Mahler, Marcus Dutra, and Stuart Cardott will continue with the jobs they’ve been doing.   While in the Marina Coast Water District incumbents Howard Gustafson and Bill Lee will be joined by newcomer Jan Shriner. 

At the Monterey Peninsula Airport District the Board of Directors will include incumbent Carl M. Miller and Commercial Pilot Matthew Nelson.

Incumbents Deborah “Debbie” Nelson,  Harry Wardwell, and Jim Gattis will continue on the Board of Directors for the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare District.

Monterey County Elections – City Council 100% of precincts reporting - 11/02/10 S.S.

In the Del Rey Oaks City Council race incumbents Jeff Cecilio and Dennis Allion will continue with their jobs.  In Greenfield,  challenger John Martinez took the Mayoral seat from incumbent John Huerta Junior, while Randy Hurley and Annie G. Moreno will sit on the Greenfield city council.  King City voters chose incumbent Terry Hughes and newcomer Carlos Victoria to represent them on the City Council.  Bruce Carlos Delgado will become the Mayor of  the city of Marina, while Nancy Amadeo and David W. Brown were chosen to sit on the Marina City Council.  Incumbents Alan Cohen and Ken Cuneo will remain on the Pacific Grove City council for 4 years and Daniel Miller abd Robert Huitt will remain on the city council for 2 more years. Voters chose to keep Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue in that office. Steve McShane will repsent Salinas District 3 while Kimberly Craig beat out incumbent Steven Villegas to represent District 5.  Felix Bachofner beat incumbent Seaside Mayor Ralph Rubio, and  incumbent Dennis Alexander and newcomer Alvin Edwards will sit on the Seaside city council.   In Soledad  Fred Ledesma will become the Mayor and newcomers Christopher Bourke and Alejandro Chavez will take seats on the city council.
