S.C. CITY PLANNING COMMISSION MTG. 11-03-10 18:30 a.v.

The Santa Cruz City Planning Commission is expected to discuss tonight a proposal to expand the current zoning capacity of an Ocean Street Extension property in order to develop a 40-unit high-income housing complex next to a funeral crematorium. One of the issues of the development project is increased traffic hazards, which would be created on the steepest part of Graham Hill Road, as well as limited access to emergency vehicles. The other issue is that the residents of the proposed rentals will be inhaling particles burned in the crematorium. The particles emitted are said to contain a high level of mercury which is extremely toxic. Tonight’s meeting will be held at the City Council Chambers on Center Street in Santa Cruz.
