Attmpt. Assault (SC) 11/07/10 7:30pm TDH

A 15-year-old Santa Cruz girl was the victim of an attempted sexual assault early Saturday morning.   She was able to escape her attacker, after the man tried to grab her at 6:40 a.m., in Santa Cruz’s Ocean View Park.   Santa Cruz police have released a sketch of the suspect, and have posted fliers in the area.  The suspect is described as a white male, in his late 20s or early 30s, 5-foot-9, and 150-pounds.  He was seen leaving the park on a teal-colored Beach-cruiser-style bike.

Home-made Bomb Found 11/05/10 6pm TDH

A 19-year-old man was arrested in Castroville yesterday, after C-H-P officers allegedly found a small, home-made bomb in his vehicle.   Officers were conducting a traffic stop on Seaside resident Daniel Walter Diamond, when they searched his vehicle after smelling marijuana.  No drugs were found, but a device described as a home-made tennis ball bomb was discovered.   Bomb-squad officers were called to render the device safe, and Diamond was booked into Monterey county jail on suspicion of possession of a destructive device.

HWY-156 Accident 11/05/10 4pm TDH

An accident that took place this afternoon in Prundale has both lanes of Highway-156 blocked. California Highway patrol officers are the scene, and are still gathering information on how many people and vehicles were involved. The wreck occurred at 2:35, at highway-156 and meridian road. Air ambulances have been called to the scene. Eastbound traffic in the area is being diverted to Castroville boulevard, while westbound lanes are being diverted to southbound highway 101.

Salinas Shooting 11/05/10 4pm TDH

One person was shot in Salinas this afternoon, as he rode in a car with a group of friends. The victims were fired on by a person or persons in a volkswagen jetta, at 12:50, as the group drove near 2nd avenue and bellehaven street. The victim was struck in the arm and head, and was air-lifted to a bay-area-hospital in serious condition. Police have not made any arrests.

STOLEN RADIOACTIVE DEVICE RETURNED 11-04-10 11:30 a.v.

A radioactive device, that was reported stolen this week in Salinas, has been returned to it’s rightful owners. Police reported that the “moisture density gauge”, that was taken during a car burglary Monday on the 400 block of Rainer Avenue, was returned to the victim’s lawn this morning. The Troxler 3440 gauge, which is a type of equipment used to measure moisture in the soil, was confirmed that it had not been tampered with.
