A number of non-profits in Monterey County have received grants. Harmony at Home has received 10,000 dollars from the Monterey Peninsula Foundation for a counseling program. The Visiting Nurse Association has been awarded a grant of 190-thousand dollars by the Hospice Foundation. A non-profit in Salinas has not received any grants, but is seeking volunteers, is the Steinbeck House. That non-profit is seeking kitchen staff, servers, and cashiers. A Cub Scout Pack in Salinas will join other volunteers on Thursday to help spruce up a local cemetery for Veterans Day. This is the 3rd year that Pack 68 has helped out the Garden of Memories cemetery on Veteran's Day. Scouts will polish gravestones, set up American Flags, and spend quality time with veterans. Last year, volunteers set up about 12-hundred flags at the cemetery on Veterans Day.

A march to remember victims of violence was held in Watsonville on Sunday. The 17th annual Peace and Unity March honored more than 50 victims of violence on the streets of Watsonville. The march took place at the Plaza and had numerous participants including the Brown Berets and Mayor Luis Alejo. Among those remembered was Raymond Cervantes, who was stabbed and killed in 2008, and Yaha Ahmed, a store owner who was killed this year.

2 people were killed last night after a truck crashed into a tree on Crazy Horse Canyon Road in Prunedale. The just before 8 p.m. accident took place about 4-hundred yards east of Highway 101. The driver of a truck traveling eastbound on Crazy Horse Canyon Road lost control of the vehicle, drove into westbound traffic and hit a tree on the shoulder of the road. 2 passengers in the truck were pronounced dead at the scene and a 3rd was treated and later released. The driver of the truck was taken to Natividad Medical Center for minor injuries before being taken into custody for vehicle manslaughter and a possible D-U-I.
