Recycling Certificate - 11/09/10 11:20 M.L.

Certificates of recognition have been awarded to a couple of localagencies for their success in implementing an extensive recycling program. The certificates were given out by The Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority to it's fellow partners (H.A.M.C. and C.H.I.S.P.A.) that worked under the Monterey Bay Area Multifamily Recycling Project. The grant funded program is distributed through the California Department of Conservation, and is to include all of their multifamily facilities within S.V.S.W.A'.s jurisdiction.

Veterans Day Celebrations 11/09/10 0800 E.A.

A number of celebrations and events in honor of Veteran's Day have been planned for the central coast. On Monday, Mount Toro High School held a flag-raising ceremony in which 10 veterans participated. On Thursday, the Garden of Memories and the Queen of Heaven cemeteries will be decorated with American flags. Prunedale's American Legion Post 593 will offer free food for veterans from 1 to 4 P.M. In Watsonville, the Walk of Honor Parade is scheduled for Thursday, and in Hollister, the 9th annual Veterans Day Parade is slated for 1 p.m. A breakfast fundraiser for local veterans will also be held at 7 a.m. At the San Benito High School cafeteria.

VARIOUS  LOCAL  GROWER-SHIPPERS  DONATED  PRODUCE,   THAT  HAS  YIELDED  A  SALINAS-BASED  NON-PROFIT  MORE  THAN  16  THOUSAND  DOLLARS.    AG  AGAINST  HUNGER COORDINATES  THE  “NEW  YORK  EXPRESS”  EVERY  YEAR,  AND  THIS  YEAR  A  TRUCKLOAD  OF  DONATED  LETTUCE,  (THAT  WAS  SOLD  AT  HUNT’S  POINT,   IN  NEW  YORK  CITY)  RAISED  THE  MONEY,  WHICH  WILL  BE  USED  FOR  THE  AGENCY’S  FALL  AND  WINTER  PROGRAMS.

 

THE  LETTUCE  WAS  DONATED  BY  THE  NUNES  COMPANYGROWERS  EXPRESS,   OCEAN  MIST,   RIVER  RANCHTAYLOR  FARMS,  AND  DOLE;    WHILE  FRESH  EXPRESS-CHIQUITA DONATED  THE  FREIGHT  COST,  AND  D’ARRIGO  BROTHERS  OF  NEW  YORK SOLD  THE  PRODUCT  IN  NEW  YORK.

62 GRANTS FOR STATE PARKS - 11/09/10 06:26 S.S.

184  MILLION  DOLLARS  WORTH  OF  GRANTS  ARE  EXPECTED  TO  BE  USED  TO  CREATE  AND  IMPROVE  CALIFORNIA  STATE   PARKS.       THE  62  GRANTS   WERE  ANNOUNCED  YESTERDAY,  AND  THEY’LL  GO  TO  CITIESCOUNTIES,   PARK  DISTRICTS,   AND  NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS ACROSS  THE  STATE.      THE  CITY  OF  SANTA  CRUZ  WILL  RECEIVE  JUST  UNDER  2  MILLION DOLLARS  FOR  THE  LOWER  OCEAN  NEIGHBORHOOD  PARK.

RESCUE NEAR WEST CLIFF DRIVE - 11/09/10 06:17 S.S.

A  MAN  WAS  RESCUED  LAST  NIGHT,  AFTER  HE  FELL  ABOUT  10  FEET  OFF  A  CLIFF  ADJACENT  TO   WEST  CLIFF  DRIVE.       THE  INCIDENT  OCCURRED  NEAR  FAIR  AVENUE AROUND  6:30  P.M.        THE  RESCUED  MAN,   WHO  SUFFERED  AN  INJURY  TO  HIS  FOOT,    WAS  TAKEN  TO  DOMINICAN  HOSPITAL.
