S.C. WOMEN’S CENTER EXPANDS SVCES 11-09-10 17:50 a.v.

Beginning this week, the Walnut Avenue Women’s Center in Santa Cruz will now expand it’s services due to help from the state. The restored funding for domestic violence services will now allow the center, which is located at 303 Walnut Avenue, to re-open on Wednesdays again. The funding also allows increased hours for youth development, teen dating violence prevention and childcare during support groups and peer counseling appointments.

P.G. HIGH SCHOOL ARREST 11-09-10 17:30 a.v.

2 men were arrested after a mason jar filled with marijuana was found at Pacific Grove High School yesterday. The 2 men were detained after they were seen searching for something in the same area where the marijuana was found earlier in the day. 27-year old Sean Paul Kilpatrick, who was found with 50-grams of methamphetamine taped to his body, was booked into Monterey County Jail on a parole violation, and 24-year old Cory Wayne Peters was booked on suspicion of trespassing on school property.

S.C. SECURITY EXTENDS HOLIDAY HOURS 11-09-10 17:00 a.v.

Police in Santa Cruz announced today that in an effort to help maintain a safe shopping environment in the downtown area this holiday season, private security officers will extend their hours. Security officers with First Alarm will work another 5 hours beginning November 26th running through December 24th. Officers in the downtown area now work from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., their new shifts will run from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.

SALINAS SCHOOLS LOCKDOWN 11-09-10 16:30 a.v.

A lock down that involved 3 Salinas schools this afternoon, ended after a man, who barricaded himself inside a nearby home, was detained. Frank Paul and Cesar Chavez Elementary Schools along with La Paz Middle School were placed on lock down for about 3 hours after a suspicious man was seen going door to door on the 900 block of La Mancha Way, when he broke into one of the homes and locked himself inside after officers arrived at 11 a.m. The unarmed man was forced out of the home after a K-9 unit found him hiding in an attic. Streets in the neighborhood were reopened by 2 p.m., the man was taken to Monterey County Jail after being treated at an area hospital.

FIRE IN CHUALAR THIS MORNING - 11/09/10 11:45 S.S.

A  FAMILY  OF  4  AND  THEIR  2  DOGS  WERE  ABLE  TO  GET  OUTSIDE,   AFTER  A  FIRE  BROKE  OUT  IN  THEIR  CHUALAR HOME  THIS  MORNING.     THE  BLAZE  WAS  FIRST  REPORTED  AROUND  9  A.M.,   AT  A  HOUSE  IN  THE  25  THOUSAND  600  BLOCK  OF  MAIN  STREET.        FIREFIGHTERS  ALSO  EVACUATED  SEVERAL  NEARBY  HOMES,  IN  CASE  THE  FIRE  SPREAD,  BEFORE THEY  COULD  KNOCK  IT  DOWN.
