A Morgan Hill man says he was swindled out of an 840-pound emerald. Anthony Thomas says that he purchased the Bahia Emerald for 60-thousand dollars from a group he had purchased other stones from. Thomas believes that the sellers lied and told him the stone was stolen when they learned of its true value. A trial is currently underway in a Los Angeles courtroom to determine the true owner of the emerald. An often-quoted appraisal puts the value of the stone at nearly 400-million dollars.
