Fatal Fire, S.C. 11/14/10 TDH

A fatal apartment fire in Santa Cruz Sunday morning claimed the life of a 58-year-old woman.   The victim was discovered unconscious in her bed, inside the residence on Idaho Avenue, near Seabright Avenue.   She was pronounced dead at the scene, after paramedics unsuccessfully tried to revive her.   No other injuries were reported in the early morning fire, which is believed to have started accidentally.   Fire crews were able to stop the flames from spreading beyond the duplex, however other residents of the building have been left temporarily homeless.   The American Red Cross is helping them find housing.    The fire is believed to have caused about 500,000 dollars’ worth of damage.

W.V. Stabbing 11/14/10 TDH

 A 38-year-old man was stabbed in Watsonville on Saturday, as 2-suspects attempted to rob him. Jorge Rocha was attacked at 11 a.m., near River Park (on East Front Street). He was transported to a local hospital by a witness, before being air-lifted out of the county to be treated for 2-stab wounds that were considered to be life-threatening. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the attack to contact the Watonville Police Department.

Juvenile Stabbed (WV) 11/14/10 TDH

 Watsonville Police say a 17-year-old who was stabbed multiple times on Friday night isn't providing much information about the attack. Officers responded to a report of a fight with weapons taking place on the 1-hundred-block of Elm Street, at 7:45. They located the victim, along with 2-other, uninjured people. None were cooperative with police, and the incident is still being investigated. The victim was air-lifted out of the county to be treated for 5-stab wounds that he is expected to survive.

Hit and Run, arrest (WV) 11/14/10 TDH

An alert witness helped Watonsville Police officers arrest a man Sunday, after he allegedly hit a child with his van, and fled the scene. Officers responded just before noon, to the report of a hit and run that occurred at Lincoln and Elm Streets. While responding, they received a report that a witness had followed the suspect, 21-year-old Ruben Bautista. Officers were able to obtain the van's license plate number, and located Bautista near Tuttle Avenue. Bautista was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail for hit and run resulting in injury, as well as driving without a license. The 7-year-old victim was air-lifted to a south bay trauma center, to be treated for what police described as “minor” injuries.

Monterey Apartment Fire 11/12/10 5:30pm TDH

A fire this morning in Monterey caused severe damage to apartment complex.   The fire broke out at the 2-story triplex at 11:30 a.m.Firefighters had the flames under control in about 40-minutes, but not before the building on David Avenue and Spencer Street sustained severe damage.   No injuries were reported.
