POGONIP HEROIN DEALER ARRESTED 09-14-10 18:00 a.v.

A 25-year old Heroin dealer was arrested this morning in Santa Cruz after drugs were found following a single vehicle crash. Officers responded to a report of a truck that crashed into a building at the corner of River and Encinal Streets at about 10:30 a.m.   The driver of the truck, Pedro Gomez was arrested after officers found heroin, marijuana, prescription pills and drug paraphernalia inside of his truck.  Gomez, who is said to be a hi-level heroin dealer, who operates out of the Pogonip, was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on multiple charges including driving under the influence and possessing and transporting drugs.

SQUID AND BROCCOLI IN GREENFIELD - 09/14/10 11:48 S.S.

A  BIG  RIG  THAT  WAS  CARRYING  SQUID  OVERTURNED  INTO  A  BROCCOLI  FIELD  NEAR  GREENFIELD  EARLY  THIS  MORNING.   THE  RIG  WAS  CARRYING  ABOUT  15  THOUSAND  POUNDS  OF  SQUID  WHEN  IT  CRASHED INTO  A  DITCH,   ALONGSIDE  THE  BROCCOLI  FIELD  (OFF  HIGHWAY 101 AT  LOS  COCHES  ROAD SHORTLY BEFORE  3  A.M.       NO  INJURIES  WERE  REPORTED,   ALTHOUGH  CREWS  HAD  TO  SPEND  HOURS  CLEARING   THE  SQUID  OUT  OF  THE  FIELD.    THE  CAUSE  OF  THAT  ACCIDENT  IS  STILL  BEING  INVESTIGATED.

S V TEENS ADMIT GUILT - 09/14/10 11:15 S.S.

TWO   SCOTTS  VALLEY  TEENS  WON’T  BE  FACING  TIME  IN  STATE  PRISON  FOR  THEIR  ROLES  IN  A  RECENT  BREAK-IN.   YESTERDAY,  WHEN  THEIR  PRELIMINARY  HEARING  WAS  SCHEDULED  TO  TAKE  PLACE,  18  YEAR-OLDS  RYAN  ESTRADA AND  DAVID  JOHNSTON ADMITTED  THEIR  INVOLVEMENT  IN  THE  THEFT  OF  SEVERAL  WEAPONS  AND  OTHER  PROPERTY  FROM  A  SCOTTS  VALLEY  HOME  LAST  MAY.   BECAUSE  THEY  “TOOK  RESPONSIBILITY”  FOR  THEIR  ACTIONS,  SANTA  CRUZ  COUNTY  SUPERIOR  COURT  JUDGE  PAUL  BURDICK DECIDED  THAT  HE  WON’T  BE  SENTENCING  THEM  TO  PRISON  TIME,  ALTHOUGH  THEY  COULD  STILL  FACE  UP  TO  A YEAR  IN  SANTA  CRUZ  COUNTY  JAIL.  THE  FIREARMS  THAT  WERE  TAKEN  IN  THAT  BURGLARY  ARE  STILL  OUTSTANDING.

 

THE  BOYS  TOLD  THE  JUDGE  THAT  THEY  LEFT  THEM  IN  2  CASES  OFF  LOCKHART  GULCH  ROAD,   BUT  WHEN  LAW  ENFORCEMENT  OFFICERS  WENT  THERE  THEY  DID  NOT  FIND  THE  WEAPONS.

 

ESTRADA  IS  CURRENTLY  ATTENDING  UNIVERSITY  IN  SALEM  OREGON,  AND  JOHNSTON  IS  GOING  TO SCHOOL  AT  CABRILLO  COLLEGE.

LUNA PAROLE DENIED - 09/14/10 11:05 S.S.

A  MAN,   WHO  HAS  BEEN  SERVING  15  YEARS  TO  LIFE   IN  PRISON,   HAS  BEEN  DENIED  PAROLE  ONCE  AGAIN.      EDWARD  LUNA WAS CONVICTED  OF  KILLING  2  RIVAL  GANG  MEMBERS  30  YEARS  AGO,   WHEN  HE  WAS  JUST  19  YEARS-OLD.    HE  WAS  1  OF  5  PEOPLE  WHO  LURED  TWO  16  YEAR-OLDS  UP  TO  THE  MOUNT  MADONNA  AREA, STRIPPED  THE  BOYS  DOWN  TO  THEIR  UNDERWEAR,   AND  THEN  STABBED  THEM  TO  DEATH.    THE  STABBINGS  WERE  IN  RETALIATION  FOR  THE  EARLIER  DEATH  OF  THE  BROTHER OF  1  OF  THE  5  ATTACKERS.  LUNA WILL  BE  ELIGIBLE  FOR  PAROLE  AGAIN  IN  3  YEARS.

HIGHWAY 9 - SB STILL CLOSED - 09/14/10 10:56 S.S.

HIGHWAY  9 SOUTHBOUND  IS  STILL  CLOSED  NEAR  MIDDLE  ROAD (WHICH  IS  BETWEEN  BROOKDALE AND  BOULDER CREEK)  DUE  TO  AN  ACCIDENT  THAT  OCCURRED  JUST  BEFORE  8  A.M.  THIS  MORNING.      THAT’S  WHEN  A  VEHICLE  HIT  A  POWER  POLE.      BECAUSE  P.G. & E.  CREWS  ARE  OUT  THERE  WORKING  TO  RESTORE  SERVICE  TO  THE  AREA,   SOUTHBOUND  TRAFFIC  IS  BEING  DETOURED  ONTO  ALBA,  THEN  EMPIRE  GRADE  ROAD AND  JAMISON  CREEK  ROAD AND  BACK  TO  HIGHWAY  9.

 

THE  NORTHBOUND  LANE  OF  HIGHWAY  9 IS  OPEN,  ALTHOUGH  TRAFFIC  IS  REPORTEDLY  MOVING  SLOWLY  THROUGH  THE AREA.
