SC Co Jail Deputies Covid+11/30/20-1522-PMD

Late last week, several correctional officers displayed symptoms of illness at work and have since tested positive for COVID-19. No incarcerated persons have tested positive or showed symptoms of illness. Nine correctional officers tested positive and are now off work. An additional six officers are quarantined based on contact with infected coworkers. Contact tracers from the County Health Department are attempting to determine the source of the outbreak. In consultation with the Health Department, all correctional staff and incarcerated persons will be tested during the next 72 hours and will be treated or quarantined as necessary. This is the first outbreak in Santa Cruz County jails. Enhanced safety procedures, screening, and hygiene protocols to protect staff and incarcerated persons were put in place in March and have been updated as new information and methods to prevent infections develop. The Sheriff’s Office will continue to work closely with the Health Department to reduce the likelihood of further spread of the virus in correctional facilities.

Zoom Phishing Alert 11.30.2020 0645 4 JS

The Better Business Bureau is warning users of the Zoom videoconferencing platform about a scam that is coming from those looking to steal your information such as log in credentials.

The scam comes in the form of an email pretending to be from Zoom stating that your account has been suspended or that you need to reschedule a meeting you might have planned.

Clicking on these links could lead users to installing malware on their computer or having other online accounts that share the same username and password compromised.

The best way to determine whether an email from Zoom is to check the email address it originates from as bad actors can forge the Name field. Emails from Zoom typically come from the email address support@zoom.us. Meanwhile, similar phishing scams have been reported for Apple users.

Those having trouble finding the email address from an email are encouraged to take the phishing quiz, located here:
