A new ordinance has gone into effect in the city of Monterey. Gas-powered leaf blowers are no longer allowed to be used in residential areas, and other leaf blowing equipment can only be used between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. For further information on this ordinance, people can contact the Code Compliance Division.
2 men have been arrested for reportedly hunting and shooting people between August and November of 2020. 20 year-old Noah Serrano and 19 year-old Leonardo Luna allegedly shot at their victims because they believed them to be rival gang members. The 2 men face possible charges of multiple counts of attempted murder, gang conspiracy, gang enhancement, and gun possession.
During the arrest of Serrano and Luna, a search turned-up a 9mm semi-automatic Glock, a loaded AK-47 magazine, and .40 caliber ammunition.
The investigation of a fatal shooting, that took place in Greenfield on New Year's Eve, is on-going. The victim's body was found in a car on the 1100 block of Heidi Street. Anyone with information about this shooting, or the shooter, is encouraged to contact the Greenfield Police Department.
A 2nd testing site for Covid-19 has been set up at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital in Hollister. People with no current symptoms can be tested at the site that is across from the hospital, at 930 Sunset Drive in Hollister. Appointments are required, and can be made by calling (831) 636-2664. This site requires valid identification.
The first case of the new variant of Covid-19 in California was reported in southern California. The new variant appears to be more transmissible. The current vaccines appear to still be effective on the new variant.
