Alisal high A.P.: Statutory Rape 11/17/11 4p.m. TDH

An assistant principal at alisal high school was arrested today, on charges of statutory rape.   Raul Ramirez was taken into custody by salinas police officers, after a  2-week long investigation.   Ramirez, who is 38-years-old, is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student.  The investigation is ongoing.   Ramirez was booked into monterey county jail with bail set at  1-million dollars.

san benito county  faces a shortfall of more than 400-thousand dollars.  a county employee neglected to file claims for in-home support service from the state department of social services before the deadline for the 2010-2011 fiscal year.  county leaders say the money will likely be made up by cutting services, as opposed to moving money from the county’s general fund.

Former water board director Stephen Collins appeared in a monterey county courtroom wednesday, for an arraignment hearing. Collins, who resigned from the monterey county water resources agency board of directors in april, is facing 33-felony counts and 6-misdemeanor charges.  the accusations include billing for services that were not performed, as well as conflict of interest. Collins did not enter a plea at the hearing, which was continued until November 30th. Collins was allowed to go free after the hearing, after his lawyer argued he is not a flight risk and should not be jailed.

Puppies abandoned, reward offered 11/16/11 10p.m. TDH

A 5-hundred dollar reward is being offered, for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever abandoned 6-puppies in monterey county.  The puppies were found yesterday, just over the fence at the recycling plant on live oak road in royal oaks.   Authorities believe someone tossed the puppies over the fence and then drove away.  The Australian shepherd-mixed-puppies are being cared for by the spca for monterey county.

Motorcyclist hits man 11/16/11 10p.m. TDH

A man was struck by a motorcycle in santa cruz on Tuesday evening.  The pedestrian was walking his bike across mission street, when the motorcyclist struck him.  The man was reportedly not crossing in a cross-walk.  The pedestrian was airlifted out of the county, with injuries described as non-life threatening.  The motorcyclist was not seriously injured.
