VARIOUS  LOCAL  GROWER-SHIPPERS  DONATED  PRODUCE,   THAT  HAS  YIELDED  A  SALINAS-BASED  NON-PROFIT  MORE  THAN  16  THOUSAND  DOLLARS.    AG  AGAINST  HUNGER COORDINATES  THE  “NEW  YORK  EXPRESS”  EVERY  YEAR,  AND  THIS  YEAR  A  TRUCKLOAD  OF  DONATED  LETTUCE,  (THAT  WAS  SOLD  AT  HUNT’S  POINT,   IN  NEW  YORK  CITY)  RAISED  THE  MONEY,  WHICH  WILL  BE  USED  FOR  THE  AGENCY’S  FALL  AND  WINTER  PROGRAMS.

 

THE  LETTUCE  WAS  DONATED  BY  THE  NUNES  COMPANYGROWERS  EXPRESS,   OCEAN  MIST,   RIVER  RANCHTAYLOR  FARMS,  AND  DOLE;    WHILE  FRESH  EXPRESS-CHIQUITA DONATED  THE  FREIGHT  COST,  AND  D’ARRIGO  BROTHERS  OF  NEW  YORK SOLD  THE  PRODUCT  IN  NEW  YORK.

62 GRANTS FOR STATE PARKS - 11/09/10 06:26 S.S.

184  MILLION  DOLLARS  WORTH  OF  GRANTS  ARE  EXPECTED  TO  BE  USED  TO  CREATE  AND  IMPROVE  CALIFORNIA  STATE   PARKS.       THE  62  GRANTS   WERE  ANNOUNCED  YESTERDAY,  AND  THEY’LL  GO  TO  CITIESCOUNTIES,   PARK  DISTRICTS,   AND  NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS ACROSS  THE  STATE.      THE  CITY  OF  SANTA  CRUZ  WILL  RECEIVE  JUST  UNDER  2  MILLION DOLLARS  FOR  THE  LOWER  OCEAN  NEIGHBORHOOD  PARK.

RESCUE NEAR WEST CLIFF DRIVE - 11/09/10 06:17 S.S.

A  MAN  WAS  RESCUED  LAST  NIGHT,  AFTER  HE  FELL  ABOUT  10  FEET  OFF  A  CLIFF  ADJACENT  TO   WEST  CLIFF  DRIVE.       THE  INCIDENT  OCCURRED  NEAR  FAIR  AVENUE AROUND  6:30  P.M.        THE  RESCUED  MAN,   WHO  SUFFERED  AN  INJURY  TO  HIS  FOOT,    WAS  TAKEN  TO  DOMINICAN  HOSPITAL.

WATSONVILLE ALCOHOL SALES ORDINANCE - 11/08/10 18:22 S.S.

At  their  meeting  tomorrow,  Watsonville  City  Council  members are  expected  to  hear  about  a  proposed  revision  to  the  city’s  alcohol  sales  ordinance.       it  would  allow  some  select  gas  station  (and  convenience  store)  owners  to  sell beer  and  wine.      Since  the  June  planning  commission  meeting,   in   which  Planners  split 3-3  on  the  proposal,   numerous  members  of  the  community  have  come  out  for  and  against  what  they  see   as   a  loosening  of  the  2002  ordinance.     Tomorrow’s  meeting   is  slated  to  begin  at  6:30  p.m.  in  the  Watsonville  City  Council chambers  on  the  4th floor  at  275 Main  Street.

SEAGULLS BEING SAVED - 11/08/10 18:20 S.S./ RB

A  LOCAL MOSS  LANDING-BASED  WILDLIFE  PROTECTION  SERVICE,  KNOWN  AS  WILDRESCUE, IS  ATTEMPTING  TO  RAISE  35-HUNDRED  DOLLARS,   IN  ORDER  TO  PURCHASE  A  DEVICE  WHICH  WOULD  ALLOW  THEM  TO  CAPTURE  (AND  THEN  ASSIST)  SOME  COLLARED  SEAGULLS  ON  THE  CENTRAL COAST.    THAT’S  BECAUSE    SOME  SEAGULLS  HAVE  BEEN  SPOTTED  RECENTLY THAT  HAVE  BEER-CAN  COLLARS,   THAT WERE  INTENTIONALLY  PLACED  AROUND  THEIR  NECKS.      THE  PERSON  (OR  PEOPLE)  THAT  DID  THAT  COULD  FACE  FEDERAL CHARGES.    IN  THE  MEANTIME,  WILDRESCUE ENCOURAGES  PEOPLE  TO  REPORT  ANY  INFORMATION  RELATING  TO THE  COLLARED  SEAGULLS  VIA  E-MAIL  TO   This email address is being protected from spambots.
