THE SOQUEL CREEK WATER DISTRICT IS MAKING PLANS, TO BUILD A NEW PUMP STATION, ON MACGREGOR DRIVE IN CAPITOLA.     THE CITY COUNCIL WILL MEET TO DISCUSS THE SALE OF THE LAND, ON THURSDAY AT 7 P-M AT CITY HALL LOCATED AT 420 CAPITOLA AVENUE.    THE SOQUEL CREEK WATER DISTRICT, HAS BEEN TALKING TO THE CITY OF CAPITOLA FOR MORE THAN A YEAR, WITH REGARDS TO THE PROPERTY AND A NEW PUMP STATION.    THE MACGREGOR SITE, IS PART OF A LARGER PARCEL AT THE CITY LIMIT.

APTOS HOUSE FIRE -052113 15:30 KWJ

THE APTOS LA-SELVA FIRE DEPARTMENT, RESPONDED TO A HOUSE FIRE IN APTOS MONDAY AFTERNOON.     NEIGHBORS FIRST REPORTED THE FIRE AROUND 4:05 P-M, AND ONCE ON SCENE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD THE BLAZE UNDER CONTROL IN LESS THAN 15 MINUTES, AND OUT COMPLETELY WITHIN 30 MINUTES.   NO ONE WAS AT HOME AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE, AND IT WAS MOSTLY CONTAINED TO THE LIVING ROOM, AND DINING ROOM OF THE HOME.   THE FIRE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION, BUT APPEARS TO BE ACCIDENTAL ACCORDING TO THE APTOS LA SELVA FIRE DEPT.

A VACANT HOUSE ON 9TH STREET CAUGHT FIRE TUESDAY AFTERNOON. TWO OFFICERS WENT INTO THE HOME AND

VERIFIED NO ONE WAS INSIDE THE BUILDING. THE OFFICERS   WERE TREATED FOR SMOKE INHALATION AT THE SCENE. NO

CAUSE FOR THE FIRE HAS BEEN DETERMINED AS OF YET.

ROWING ENDURANCE RACE --052013 20:30 KWJ

A 21 HUNDRED-MILE ROWING RACE, FROM CALIFORNIA TO  HAWAII, IN JUNE, WILL BEGIN IN MONTEREY. THE CONTEST,

WHICH COULD TAKE FOUR-PERSON CREWS 30 DAYS OR MORE, AND INDIVIDUALS, UP TO 100 DAYS TO FINISH, WILL OFFER

STREAMING VIDEOS, AND ON-LINE TRACKING OF VESSELS.  AS OF THIS TIME, 15 CREWS MADE UP OF 38 PARTICIPANTS,

HAVE SIGNED UP. CREWS FROM, NEW ZEALAND, IRELAND,  FRANCE, THE UNITED KINGDOM AND THE UNITED STATES PLUS

MANY OTHERS WILL MAKE UP THE FIELD. MONTEREY WAS  CHOSEN BECAUSE OF AVAILABLE FACILITIES, LOCAL SUPPORT

AND WEATHER.

40 DOMINICAN HOSPITAL REHABILITATION EMPLOYEES WILL  LOSE THEIR JOBS ON WEDNESDAY. THE STATE AGENCY

OVERSEEING HOSPITAL FACILITIES HAS PUSHED TO INVEST IN  UPGRADES FOR THE 610 FREDRICK STREET ADDRESS TO COMPLY

WITH THE SEISMIC SAFETY STANDARDS OR SHUT THE DOORS.  THE $8.2 MILLION COST TO UPGRADE DID NOT MAKE ECONOMIC

SENSE TO THE HOSPITAL. DOMINICAN ALERTED 80 EMPLOYEES ABOUT POSSIBLE LAYOFFS, BUT MANY TRANSFERRED TO

OTHER ASSIGNMENTS.
