MONTEREY D.A. DROPS CHARGES 4-28-14 1750 OG

ALL CHARGES HAVE BEEN DROPPED AGAINST U-S AIR FORCE CAPTAIN NICOLAS AQUINO. AQUINO WAS ARRESTED IN DECEMBER 2013 IN FRONT OF HIS OWN CARMEL HOME BECAUSE A SHERIFF REPORTEDLY THOUGHT HE WAS A BURGLAR. MONTEREY COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY DEAN FLIPPO ANNOUNCED MONDAY THAT HE THOUGHT A JURY WOULD LIKELY FIND CHARGES OF RESISTING ARREST AND OBSTRUCTING A PEACE OFFICER AN UNFORTUNATE MISUNDERSTANDING AND NOT A CRIMINAL OFFENSE. CAPTAIN AQUINO IS A STUDENT AT THE DEFENSE LANGUAGE INSTITUTE.

THE SANTA CRUZ POLICE DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCED THE PROMOTION OF OFFICER CARTER JONES TO SERGEANT ON MONDAY. JONES HAS BEEN ON THE POLICE FORCE FOR OVER 11 YEARS, SERVING IN THE STREET CRIMES UNIT, AS A PEER COUNSELOR, ON THE SANTA CRUZ TACTICAL MEDICAL TASK FORCE, AND MOST RECENTLY, AS A FIELD TRAINING OFFICER. IN ADDITION TO HIS PATROL AND FIELD TRAINING DUTIES, HE WILL REMAIN A RESCUE DIVER AND AN OPERATOR ON THE SWAT TEAM. SERGEANT JONES WAS BORN AND RAISED IN SANTA CRUZ AND GRADUATED FROM SOQUEL HIGH SCHOOL.
