THE 6TH ANNUAL “TASTE OF THE HARBOR” WILL BE HELD TODAY (TUESDAY) FROM 4:30 P.M. A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF ANCHOVIES ARE ATTRACTING RECORD NUMBERS OF HUMPBACK WHALES TO THE CENTRAL COAST.    WHALE WATCH PILOTS SAY THE EPIC NUMBER OF ANCHOVY SCHOOLS HAVE BROUGHT HUNDREDS OF WHALES, ALONG WITH SOME BLUE WHALES, TO THE MONTEREY PENINSULA, NEAR MOSS LANDING AND SANTA CRUZ.    ONE WHALE WATCHING TOUR GUIDE REPORTED AN ANCHOVY SCHOOL TO BE ABOUT 200-FEET DEEP AND OVER A MILE LONG.     OFFICIALS SAY ANCHOVIES USUALLY SHOW UP DURING LATE SUMMER WHEN LOCAL STREAM FLOWS ARE LOW, AND A HIGH SALINITY LEVEL IS PRESENT OF NEAR-SHORE SALTWATER.

$50M IN POT PLANTS SEIZED IN HOLLISTER 09-16-2013 12:30 av

50-MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF POT PLANTS WERE SEIZED AND FIVE PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED LAST WEEK AFTER A SEARCH WARRANT WAS SERVED ON A HOLLISTER RESIDENCE.    ON TUESDAY MULTIPLE AGENCIES SEARCHED THE HOME AND THE ADJOINING LAND ON THE 8-THOUSAND BLOCK OF LOVER’S LANE TO FIND FIVE SUSPECTS ATTEMPTING TO RUN FROM THE PROPERTY.    THE MEN WERE CONTACTED AND TAKEN INTO CUSTODY WITHOUT INCIDENT.   ABOUT 25-THOUSAND MARIJUANA PLANTS WERE ALSO FOUND HIDING AND GROWING IN BETWEEN LEGAL CROPS WERE SEIZED ALONG WITH THREE HIGH POWERED PELLET RIFLES.

CASTROVILLE COCKFIGHTING ARREST 09-16-2013 12:00 av

A CASTROVILLE MAN WAS ARRESTED OVER THE WEEKEND ON ANIMAL CRUELTY CHARGES.    31-YEAR OLD SIMON LARA VALDEZ WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY SUNDAY AFTER A SEARCH WARRANT SERVED AT HIS SPRINGPOINT ROAD TURNED UP 22-LIVE AND DEAD ROOSTERS SUSPECTED IN THE USE OF COCKFIGHTING.    VALDEZ WAS ON FELONY BAIL FOR A PREVIOUS CASE.    HE IS BEING HELD IN MONTEREY COUNTY JAIL ON $20,000 BAIL.

PUBLIC TAKEOVER OF CAL-AM 09-16-2013 11:30 BP

A PEBBLE BEACH RESIDENT IS TAKING ON CAL-AM OVER THE MONTEREY PENINSULA’S WATER SUPPLY.   RON COHEN, THE MANAGING DIRECTOR OF “PUBLIC WATER NOW”, CLAIMS THAT CAL-AM IS A MISMANAGED MONOPOLY THAT HAS FAILED TO SECURE WATER RESOURCES FOR THE FUTURE.   HE SAID THE NON-PROFIT WOULD SPONSOR A MEASURE SEEKING VOTER APPROVAL TO PURCHASE CAL-AM’S LOCAL ASSETS THAT WOULD APPEAR ON THE JUNE 2014 BALLOT.
