THE BOARD MEMBERS OF  THINK LOCAL FIRST, COUNTY OF SANTA CRUZ,  HAS ACCEPTED THE RESIGNATION OF NEW LEAF MARKETS,  THIS,  FOLLOWING THE ACQUISITION OF THE CHAIN BY PORTLAND, OREGON BASED NEW SEASONS MARKET.  RESIDENTS OF SANTA CRUZ, SAN BENITO,MONTEREY  AND SANTA CLARA COUNTIES NEED TO OWN MORE THAN 50 PER-CENT OF THE BUSINESSES IN THESE COUNTIES,  WITH NO CORPORATE OFFICES OUTSIDE OF SAID COUNTIES.   AN EMAIL TO THINK LOCAL FIRST,  FROM BOARD MEMBER SCOTT ROSEMAN, SAID THAT  NEW LEAF NO LONGER QUALIFIES FOR MEMBERSHIP,  ALTHOUGH THEY ARE STILL LOCALLY RUN.  THE EMAIL FURTHER STATED THAT SANTA CRUZ COUNTY CITIZENS NO LONGER HOLD THE MAJORITY IN  NEW LEAF  OWNERSHIP.

W’VILLE POLICE CHIEF 11/16/13 1555 GE

WATSONVILLE POLICE CHIEF MANNY SOLANO CELEBRATED HIS RETURN TO WORK BY DRIVING THROUGH THE STREETS OF THE CITY ON FRIDAY IN THE DEPARTMENT’S 1968 FORD PATROL CAR.  HE WAS ACCOMPANIED BY 4 YEAR OLD ROBERTO OROZCO,  WHOM HE MET THROUGH JACOB’S HEART, A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT SUPPORTS CHILDREN WITH CANCER.  ROBERTO,WHO IS BEING TREATED FOR LEUKEMIA, HAD BEEN RECEIVING “THUMBS UP” TEXTS FROM SOLANO DURING THE COURSE OF THEIR TREATMENT.      AFTER DRIVING AROUND THE CITY WITH THE CHIEF, HE WAS TREATED TO A TOUR OF THE POLICE STATION AND LUNCH AT A LOCAL SUBWAY. SOLANO PLANS TO CUT BACK ON SOME DUTIES AND STAY CLOSE TO HOME,  TO CONSERVE HIS ENERGY AND TO FOCUS ON HIS STAFF.

CYCLIST DEATH 11/17/13 15:30 GE

 

THE REPORT ON THE RECENT DEATH OF A BICYCLIST IS NOT YET COMPLETE.     AS OF THIS PAST FRIDAY, THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE HAD NOT YET RECEIVED THE CRASH REPORT, WHICH HAPPENED ON NOVEMBER 2ND.   U C SANTA CRUZ LIBRARIAN JOSHUA APLER WAS FATALLY INJURED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION  WITH A TESLA, DRIVEN BY A 63 YEAR OLD SANTA CRUZ MAN, WHO ALLEGEDLY FELL ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL WHILE NEAR DIMEO LANE, NORTH OF SANTA CRUZ.      DISTRICT ATTORNEY BOB LEE AND PROSECUTOR GREG PEINADO,  VISITED THE CRASH SITE AND WILL INVESTIGATE THE CASE THOROUGHLY BEFORE RELEASING MORE INFORMATION.

AMBER ALERT K-C GIRL-11/15/13-17:00-PMD

 AN AMBER ALERT HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR A KING CITY GIRL. 13 YEAR OLD DANIELA RODRIGUEZ HAS BEEN MISSING SINCE WEDNESDAY. THE TEEN HAS A HISTORY OF DEPRESSION AND MAY BE SUICIDAL. SHE WAS LAST SEEN WEARING KHAKI PANTS, A GRAY HOODY AND A BROWN BACK PACK. ANYONE WITH ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE TEENS WHEREABOUTS IS URGED TO CONTACT THE KING CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT.

BOMB SQUAD SC DUMP-11/15/13-16:00-PMD

 THE SANTA CRUZ COUNTY SHERIFF’S BOMB SQUAD WAS CALLED OUT FRIDAY MORNING.  THE SANTA CRUZ POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AFTER WORKERS AT THE LAND FILL FOUND SUSPICIOUS OBJECTS IN THE ELECTRICAL RECYCLING AREA. POLICE AND FIRE OFFICIAL INSPECTED THE DEVICES AND CALLED IN THE BOMB SQUAD WHO THEN DESTROYED THE OBJECTS AND IS NOW ANALYZING THE DEBRIS.
