BIG-RIG CRASH ON 101 - 04/19/11 11:22 S.S.

A  PORTION  OF  NORTHBOUND  HIGHWAY  101  WAS  CLOSED  THIS  MORNING,   AFTER  A  BIG-RIG  CAUGHT  FIRE  NEAR  BETABEL  AND  Y  ROADS,   JUST  NORTH  OF  SAN  JUAN  BAUTISTA. THE  8:45  A.M.  ACCIDENT  OCCURRED  WHEN  THE  BIG-RIG  HIT  THE  CENTER  DIVIDER.     NO  ONE  WAS  INJURED  IN  THE  INCIDENT,   AND  ALL  OF  THE  LANES  RE-OPENED  ABOUT  3  HOURS  LATER.

MAN DIED AFTER FALL - update - 04/19/11 11:15 S.S.

 

A  22  YEAR-OLD  FREMONT  MAN  DIED  YESTERDAY,   WHEN  HE  FELL  OFF  A  WEST  CLIFF  DRIVE CLIFF  LAST  NIGHT,    AND  LANDED  ON  THE ROCKS  BELOW.       THE  JUST  BEFORE  6  P.M.  INCIDENT  OCCURRED  JUST  NORTH  OF  THE  SANTA  CRUZ  LIGHTHOUSE,  WHILE  NICK  HUSAIN,  (AND  2  FREMONT  FRIENDS)  WERE  WALKING  ALONG  THE  CLIFF.     HUSAIN WAS  DECLARED  DEAD  AT  THE  SCENE.

SCOTTS VALLEY BASED SEAGATE TECHNOLOGIES HAS ANNOUNCED PLANS TO ACQUIRE SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS’ HARD DRIVE BUSINESS.  THE DEAL IS STILL IN THE WORKS, BUT, IF APPROVED BY THE U.S.  AND INTERNATIONAL REGULATORS, IT COULD GIVE THE SOUTH KOREAN COMPANY A NEARLY 10% STAKE IN SEAGATE TECHNOLOGIES.

ALTHOUGH  LESS  THAN  5  GALLONS  OF  TRANSMISSION  FLUID  SPILLED  INTO  STRUVE  SLOUGH THIS  MORNING,  THOUSANDS  OF  POUNDS  OF  BROCCOLI  ENDED  UP  IN  THE  SLOUGH  WHEN  A  BIG  RIG  (CARRYING  THE CRUCIFEROUS  VEGETABLE)  OVERTURNED  ON  THE  SHOULDER  OF  HIGHWAY  1 NEAR  STRUVE  ROAD.     THE  8:15  A.M.  ACCIDENT  OCCURRED  WHEN  THE  DRIVER  SWERVED  HIS  TRUCK  AROUND  A  CAR,  THAT  HAD  REPORTEDLY  STOPPED  TO  LET  BIRDS  CROSS  THE  ROAD.
