Dead shark found 06/13/12 5:40p.m. TDH

A dead shark washed up on asilomar beach in pacific grove beach this morning.  the carcass of the 10-foot pacific sleeper shark was reportedly heavily damaged and had its dorsal fin missing.   Pacific sleeper sharks are not studied much by experts, but are known to live in deep water and are considered rare.   The shark is believed to have been killed by a natural predator, not a marine vessel.

TO CELEBRATE 30 YEARs, MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY THEATER INVITES EVERYONE TO AN EVENING OF MUSIC, MIRTH, AND MEMORIES THIS SATURDAY.  SINCE 1982, THE THEATER GROUP HAS BEEN PERFORMING QUALITY LIVE THEATER FOR THE SAN LORENZO VALLEY AND BEYOND. MCT VETERANS WILL PERFORM FAVORITES FROM THE 117 PLAYS THEY HAVE PRESENTED THROUGHOUT THEIR 30 YEARS. THIS WILL BE ONE NIGHT ONLY – SATURDAY JUNE 16, 7:30 PM AT PARK HALL, WHICH IS LOCATED AT 9370 MILL STREET IN BEN LOMOND. TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR.

WATSONVILLE ACCIDENT - 6/14/12 B.B.

NO MAJOR INJURIES WERE REPORTED IN AN  ACCIDENT THAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY  AT MAIN STREET AND GREEN VALLEY ROAD IN WATSONVILLE.   AT 11:45 AM,  A JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE (DRIVEN BY A 31 YEAR OLD GILROY WOMAN WITH HER TWO CHILDREN), SLAMMED INTO THE SIDE OF A 1958 GMC WITH TWO MEN ABOARD.    THE FORCE OF THE ACCIDENT FLIPPED THE GMC ONTO IT'S SIDE,  EVEN THOUGH IT WAS FULLY LOADED WITH WOOD CHIPS AND FOLIAGE, AND WAS TOWING A LARGE WOOD CHIPPER.   SOUTHBOUND  MAIN STREET,   AT THE INCIDENT,  WAS CLOSED FOR ABOUT  2 HOURS,  WHILE THE DEBRIS WAS CLEARED, SLOWING THOUSANDS OF DRIVERS DURING THE NOONTIME TRAFFIC RUSH.

BLUE SHIELD - 6/14/2012 B.B.

A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST THE BLUE SHIELD STATES THAT THE INSURANCE COMPANY IS TELLING CUSTOMERS TO EITHER PAY A HIGHER PREMIUM, OR SWITCH TO A LESSER POLICY.    THE NONPROFIT GROUP CONSUMER WATCHDOG FILED THE LAWSUIT,  SAYING THE BLUE SHIELD IS USING WHAT IS CALLED A “DEATH SPIRAL” IN THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY,  TO PURGE THE CUSTOMERS WHO FILE THE MOST CLAIMS.   THE SUIT STATES THE CAUSE IS THE FEDERAL HEALTH REFORM ACT THAT TAKES EFFECT IN 2014.    BLUE SHIELD DENIES THE ALLEGATIONS, CLAIMING THAT THEY ARE IN COMPLIANCE WITH CALIFORNIA LAW.

SPIRIT WEST COAST - CANCELLED FOR 2012 - 06/14/12 11:37 S.S.

ALTHOUGH  A  FUNDRAISING  CAMPAIGN  HAS  BEGUN,   IT   ISN’T  LIKELY  TO   HELP  QUICKLY  ENOUGH  TO  SAVE  THIS  YEAR’S   SPIRIT  WEST  COAST  FESTIVAL.    THE  EVENT,  WHICH  HAS  BEEN  HELD  AT  THE  LAGUNA  SECA  RECREATION  AREA FOR  THE  LAST  NUMBER  OF  YEARS,  HAS  BEEN  CANCELLED.

THE  ORGANIZERS  OF  SPIRIT  WEST  COAST SAY  THAT  (DUE  TO  THE  ECONOMY)  THE  JUNE  21ST-23RD FESTIVAL  HAS  RUN  INTO  FINANCIAL  DIFFICULTIES,   BUT  THEY  HOPE  THAT THE  FUNDRAISING  CAMPAIGN  WILL  ALLOW  THEM  TO  PUT  THE  FESTIVAL  ON  NEXT  YEAR.
