Explosive Device Found in Marina 3.12.13 7.36a AF

An explosive device was found in Marina Monday night, and Police are now investigating where it came from.       Shortly after 5:30pm Marina Police Officers were called to the 400 block of Reservation Road.    Residents in the area were quickly evacuated and the Monterey County Bomb Squad called in.      The device was safely removed and detonated, though it is still unknown what it actually was.     Marina police are seeking the public’s help for any information on this incident.

SOQUEL MOLESTER IN COURT 3/11/13 6:00p DMF

THE SOQUEL MAN CONVICTED OF MOLESTING A 10-YEAR-OLD GIRL MORE THAN THREE YEARS AGO WAS BACK IN A SANTA CRUZ COUNTY COURTROOM MONDAY.    40-YEAR-OLD ANTHONY POLETTI WAS TRIED BY THE SAME JUDGE HE FACED LAST TIME PAUL MARIGONDA.    POLETTI’S BAIL WAS INCREASED FROM 350 THOUSAND DOLLARS TO 500 THOUSAND, AND A NEW APRIL 15th TRIAL DATE WAS SET.   BACK IN 2009 POLETTI WAS FOUND GUILTY OF 15 TOTAL CHARGES INCLUDING LEWD ACTS WITH A CHILD AND RAPE AND WAS SENTENCED TO 68 YEARS IN PRISON.

RIDE FOR FALLEN OFFICERS 3/11/13 3:00p DMF

100 PLUS BIKERS TOOK PART IN A MEMORIAL RIDE SUNDAY, FOR SANTA CRUZ’S FALLEN POLICE OFFICERS.   THE RIDERS MET UP AT APTOS-LA SELVA FIRE STATION ON SOQUEL DRIVE AT 9 A.M.     THE FLEET OF BIKES TOOK A 10 MILE RIDE TO THE CORROLITOS FIRE STATION AND AFTERWARDS MANY CHOSE TO WRITE MESSAGES OF ENCOURAGEMENT AND SIGN A LARGE CARD FOR THE SANTA CRUZ POLICE DEPARTMENT.

IN AN EFFORT TO STOP POLLUTION, C.S.U.M.B. STUDENTS WORKING WITH THE SAVE THE WHALE GROUP DISTRIBUTED MARKERS OVER STORM DRAINS SATURDAY.   THE GROUP HOPES THE MARKERS PLACED ALL OVER MONTEREY WILL EDUCATE THE COMMUNITY ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF NOT DUMPING POLLUTANTS IN DRAINS THAT LEAD TO THE OCEAN.    THE MOST COMMON TOXINS DUMPED INTO LOCAL STORM DRAINS ARE MOTOR OIL, DOG EXCREMENT AND ANTIFREEZE.

DIVER PULLED FROM WATER 3/11/13 3:00p DMF

A DIVER WAS PULLED FROM THE WATER AND ATTEMPTED TO BE RESUSCITATED BY CYPRESS FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT ON SUNDAY.      FIREFIGHTERS GOT A DISTRESS CALL AROUND 2:30 P.M.  THAT ONE OF THREE DIVERS IN A GROUP AT WHALER’S COVE NEAR POINT LOBOS WAS IN DISTRESS.     THE VICTIM WAS PULLED FROM THE WATER AND TRANSPORTED TO COMMUNITY HOSPITAL OF THE MONTEREY PENINSULA.         THE DIVER’S CONDITION IS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME.
