SUSPECT AT LARGE 07/21/13 14:50 GE

A ROBBERY AND CARJACKING TOOK PLACE ON SATURDAY NIGHT AT ABOUT 9:15 P-M, IN SALINAS.       THE VICTIM, WHILE  PARKED AT NATIVIDAD CREEK PARK, WAS ROBBED OF CASH AND PERSONAL PROPERTY,  AS WELL AS THE VEHICLE,   SUNDAY AFTERNOON, OFFICERS SPOTTED THE CAR ON KIMMEL STREET NEAR BEECH STREET. TWO SUBJECTS EXITED THE CAR, ONE HOLDING A SEMI-AUTOMATIC HANDGUN.    HE ALLEGEDLY FIRED AT THE OFFICERS, BUT HIT HIS ACCOMPLICE, INSTEAD.   THEY BOTH RAN FROM THE SCENE, LEAVING THE THIRD SUSPECT, A 17 YEAR OLD BOY, IN THE BACK OF THE CAR.  THE BOY WAS ARRESTED AND LATER BOOKED INTO  MONTEREY COUNTY JUVENILE HALL.    THE SECOND SUSPECT, 18 YEAR OLD JUAN BOYZO, RETURNED TO THE SCENE,   AND WAS APPREHENDED BY A POLICE K-9, HE WAS AIRLIFTED TO A TRAUMA CENTER FOR THE TREATMENT OF HIS GUNSHOT WOUND.   HE IS ON POLICE HOLD AND WILL BE BOOKED INTO MONTEREY COUNTY JAIL.    THE FIRST SUSPECT, BELIEVED TO BE THE SHOOTER, IS STILL AT LARGE AS OF SUNDAY AFTERNOON.    ANYONE WITH ANY INFORMATION IS ENCOURAGED TO CALL THE SALINAS POLICE DEPARTMENT AT 831-758-7250.

SALINAS SCHOOL LUNCHES IMPROVE- 7/20/13 19:10 PMD

SALINAS SCHOOLS ARE GOING TO BE OFFERING MORE NUTRITIOUS FOOD.    11 SCHOOLS IN THE ALISAL AND SALINAS CITY SCHOOL DISTRICTS ARE BENEFITING FROM AN 11.4 MILLION DOLLAR FEDERAL GRANT.    MONIES FROM THE GRANT WILL BE USED TO PROVIDE CHILDREN WITH HEALTHY SNACKS, SUCH AS FRUITS AND VEGETABLES.   THE GRANT IS PART OF THE NATIONAL LUNCH ACT.

THE MONTEREY COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IS CONSIDERING A NEW LEGISLATION.   THE BOARD IS PROPOSING A LAW THAT WILL HOLD  PARTY  OR SOCIAL EVENT HOLDERS OR PROPERTY OWNERS  RESPONSIBLE FOR NOISE VIOLATIONS AND UNDER AGE DRINKING.   THE DETAILS OF THE PROPOSED LEGISLATION WILL BE DISCUSSED AT THE NEXT BOARD MEETING THIS FRIDAY IN SALINAS.

NATIVIDAD TO OFFER FREE TESTS- 7/20/13 18:10 PMD

NATIVIDAD MEDICAL CENTER REPRESENTATIVES ANNOUNCED THAT THEY WILL BE OFFERING FREE TESTING FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE UNDER GONE CERTAIN PROCEDURES.    THAT AFTER IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE STERILIZATION BEING PERFORMED ON THE DIAGNOSTIC INSTRUMENT KNOWN AS AN ENDOSCOPE WAS INADEQUATE.     HOSPITAL OFFICIALS HAVE CONTACTED CLIENTS WHO MAY HAVE A LOW RISK OF INFECTION AND OFFERED FREE TESTING FOR , HEPATITIS C, HEPATITIS B AND HIV.

SANTA CRUZ HOMELESS FACILITIES- 7/20/13 17:30 PMD

THE CITY OF SANTA CRUZ IS GOING TO PROVIDE A BATHROOM FOR THE HOMELESS NEAR THE LEVY.    THE BATHROOM IS TO BE INSTALLED IN A FRONT STREET PARKING LOT.   THE PROJECT IS AN ATTEMPT TO ADDRESS SANITATION ISSUES ALONG THE LEVEE,  DUE TO THE HOMELESS POPULATION .   THE PROJECT WILL MONITORED FOR 6 MONTHS TO DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT IT HAS A POSITIVE EFFECT ON THE SITUATION.
