58-YEAR OLD JOSEPH GEORGE WATTS, A SANTA CRUZ RESIDENT, WAS ARRESTED ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON BY SANTA CRUZ COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES.     WATTS, WHO WAS ON PROBATION, WAS FOUND WITH 58 GRAMS OF HEROIN AND 20 GRAMS OF METHAMPHETAMINE WHEN DEPUTIES WERE ON PATROL NEAR 32ND AVENUE AND PORTOLA DRIVE.     HE WAS BOOKED INTO COUNTY JAIL ON SUSPICION OF POSSESSION OF DRUGS FOR SALE AND EVADING AUTHORITIES.     HIS BAIL IS SET AT $10,000

PEDESTRIAN HIT ON 17 IDENTIFIED 1/13/14 1630 OG

THE PEDESTRIAN HIT AND KILLED EARLY SATURDAY MORNING ON HIGHWAY 17 HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS 21-YEAR OLD IVAN MERCADO OF SANTA CRUZ.     MERCADO STEPPED FROM THE CENTER MEDIAN INTO THE ROAD AND WAS HIT BY A 30-YEAR OLD DRIVING SOUTHBOUND.     THE C-H-P HAS NOT YET DETERMINED WHO WAS AT FAULT.

A WILDFIRE THAT BROKE OUT TODAY (MONDAY)ABOUT 12:30 P-M ON MORO ROAD IN PRUNEDALE IS NOW FULLY CONTAINED ACCORDING TO NORTH MONTEREY COUNTY FIRE OFFICIALS.     THE HALF-ACRE FIRE BURNED DOWN A FENCE AND BRUSH IN THE AREA BUT NO HOMES WERE DAMAGED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED.     THE FIRE IS BELIEVED TO BE STARTED BY A HOMEOWNER WHO DUMPED FIREPLACE ASHES OUTSIDE.

A  DRIVER  WAS  ARRESTED  THIS  MORNING  AFTER  A  SOLO-VEHICLE  ROLLOVER  OCCURRED  ON  HIGHWAY 17.  THAT ACCIDENT  TOOK PLACE  SHORTLY  BEFORE  4  A-M  SOUTH OF  THE  SUMMIT.       THE  DRIVER  WAS  ARRESTED  ON  SUSPICION OF BEING  DRIVING  UNDER  THE  INFLUENCE.

A  GREENFIELD  MAN  HAS  BEEN  SENTENCED  TO  SPEND  15 YEARS  BEHIND  BARS.    THAT  AFTER  26  YEAR-OLD ALEJANDRO  JOSE  GONZALEZ  ADMITTED  TO  SHOOTING  3  PEOPLE  OUTSIDE  THE  MUCKY  DUCK  BAR  AND  NIGHT CLUB  3  YEARS  AGO.    2  EMPLOYEES  AND  A  PATRON  WERE  STRUCK  BY  THE  BULLETS.   GONZALEZ  IS EXPECTED  TO  SERVE  AT  LEAST  85  PERCENT  OF  HIS  SENTENCE.
