WATSONVILLE HOMICIDE PAJARO RIVER- 05-05-14 8:00 SG

A WATSONVILLE MAN WAS FATALLY STABBED LAST NIGHT (SUN). OFFICERS ARRIVED AT THE END OF MARCHANT STREET NEAR THE PAJARO RIVER LEVEE AT AROUND 6:30 P-M, AFTER REPORTS OF BATTERY AND A MAN LYING ON THE GROUND.    A 51-YEAR-OLD HISPANIC MALE WAS FOUND SUFFERING FROM A STAB WOUND. THE MAN WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE.    WITNESSES TOLD INVESTIGATORS THEY SAW TWO MALE JUVENILES HAVE AN ALTERCATION WITH THE VICTIM.   POLICE IDENTIFIED AND ARRESTED A 16-YEAR-OLD IN CONNECTION WITH THE HOMICIDE. THE INCIDENT IS BEING INVESTIGATED AS GANG RELATED.

RALLIES ARE EXPECTED TO TAKE PLACE AT A MORGAN HILL HIGH SCHOOL TODAY (MON).     LIVE OAK HIGH SCHOOL IS MAKING PREPARATIONS FOR PROTESTS STEMMING FROM A 2010 DISPUTE ON CINCO DE MAYO.   FOUR YEARS AGO TODAY, LIVE OAK STUDENTS WEARING CLOTHING EMBLAZONED WITH THE U-S FLAG WERE TOLD TO CHANGE OR GO HOME.    THE ORGANIZATION GILROY MORGAN HILL PATRIOTS, PLANS TO PROTEST IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL THIS MORNING (MON).    A MOTORCYCLE CONVOY CARRYING FLAGS IS EXPECTED TO RIDE THROUGH THE CITY AT AROUND 1:30 P-M.     LATER, AT 5 P-M, A UNITY RESPECT AND PEACE RALLY WILL BE HELD AT MORGAN HILL COMMUNITY PARK.

SENIOR WISH DAY -5/4/14-2242-PMD

RE-OPENING OF SCHOOLS DEBATE -5/4/14-2222-PMD

AFTER DROPS IN SCHOOL ENROLLMENTS LED TO THE CLOSURE OF 4 OF THE CITY OF  SANTA CRUZ SCHOOL DISTRICT’S SCHOOLS. ENROLLMENT IS NOW ON THE RISE.  THE RISE OF 12 TO 15 PERCENT OVER THE LAST DECADE HAS TEMPORARY CLASSROOMS AT MANY OF THE AREA’S OVERCROWDED SCHOOLS.  RECENTLY A DEBATE HAS BEGUN ON RE-OPENING SCHOOLS. NATURAL BRIDGES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IS ON THE TOP OF THE LIST OF SCHOOLS BEST SUITED FOR RE OPENING. A COMMITTEE STUDYING THE RE-OPENING IS LIKELY TO ADDRESS THE SCHOOL BOARD during a meeting ON WEDNESDAY AT 6:30 P-M at the county Office of Education, 400 Encinal St

WATSONVILLE CELEBRATED CINCO DE MAYO YESTERDAY ON SUNDAY THE 4TH THIS YEAR.  THE EVENT IN ITS 24TH YEAR DREW THOUSANDS OF FESTIVAL GOERS TO THE TOWN SQUARE PARK TO CELEBRATE WITH CRAFTS, MUSIC, AND FOOD.  ON SATURDAY HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE SHOWED UP FOR DAVENPORT’S 25TH ANNUAL EVENT.  CINCO DE MAYO COMMEMORATES THE  MEXICAN ARMY’S 1862 VICTORY OVER THE FRENCH.
