Xmas Tree Pickup 01/09/11 11pm TDH

The cities of Watsonville and Santa Cruz have wrapped up their Christmas tree pick-up programs, however trees are still being picked up elsewhere in the county.  Just cut your tree into 6-foot lengths (or 3-foot lengths if you live in an unincorporated areas), and leave it by your trash on normal pick-up days.   In Capitola, trees are being picked up through this Saturday, the 14th.   Residents of unincorporated areas of Santa Cruz County can have their trees picked up through the 21st, and Scotts Valley residents can leave their trees curbside until the 28th.

Tutor Volunteers Sought 01/09/11 11pm TDH

The Literacy Program of the Volunteer Centers of Santa Cruz County, is looking for volunteers to teach adults to read, write, and speak english.   You don't need to know any other language to apply.  The first orientation is scheduled for Tuesday, at 6 p.m.   It is set to be held in building C at 1010 Emeline Avenue, in Santa Cruz.  More orientations are scheduled to be held on January 29th in Watsonville, and on February 10th and 19th in Live Oak.   Orientations will be followed by tutor training sessions in January, February, and March.    For more information, call Larissa, at 831-427-5077.

3 Arrested after Sal. Chase 01/09/11 10pm TDH

3-people were arrested Sunday, after leading Salinas police officers on a car chase.    Officers on the Violence Suppression Unit noticed a stolen Lexus on Del Monte Boulevard at 3:21p.m., and pursued it when the driver wouldn't stop.  20-year-old Ignacio Ramirez was taken into custody after crashing the vehicle into a fire hydrant.  2-juveniles were also arrested, for charges including weapons possession.

W.V. Bank Robbed 01/09/11 10pm TDH

A pair of armed robbers held up a Watsonville bank on Friday night.   The 2-suspects entered the Rabobank on Main Street, demanded cash at gunpoint, and fled the scene.   No injuries were reported in the incident, and Watsonville police are still looking for the suspects.

Chase, Arrest 01/09/11 10pm TDH

A man on parole was airlifted to an out-of-county trauma center, after crashing his car in Felton on Sunday.  27-year-old Nick Bues was being pursued by Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Deputies, when he crashed into a tree on Laurel Drive.   He was found in a nearby garage.   Bues had been wanted for not checking in with his parole officer, and now faces several additional charges, including weapons and drugs possession, and evading police.
