LEGAL ACTION AGAINST CASTANEDA 3/20/13 10:00a DMF

IN A SALINAS CITY COUNCIL MEETING TUESDAY IT WAS DECIDED TO MOVE FORWARD WITH FILING A LAWSUIT TO HAVE JOSE CASTANEDA REMOVED FROM HIS SCHOOL BOARD SEAT.     LAST MONTH SALINAS SENT A LETTER TO THE ALISAL UNION SCHOOL BOARD REQUESTING AN OPINION ON CASTENEDA HOLDING BOTH A CITY COUNCILMEMBER AND SCHOOL BOARD SEAT AND WAS MET WITH NO RESPONSE.         IN A 4 TO 2 VOTE THE COUNCIL WILL MOVE FORWARD IN FILING THE LAWSUIT WITH THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE TO TRY AND REMOVE CASTANEDA FROM HIS BOARD SEAT.

MISSING SJ MAN FOUND 3/20/13 8:00a DMF

THE MISSING SAN JOSE STATE STUDENT LAST SEEN IN SANTA CRUZ MONDAY HAS BEEN LOCATED.       22-YEAR-OLD GABRIEL LORETTE SMITH WAS CONSIDERED AN AT-RISK MISSING PERSON AND WAS RECENTLY CITED FOR ILLEGAL CAMPING. SMITH WAS LAST SEEN NEAR HENRY COWELL STATE PARK IN SANTA CRUZ BEFORE HE WAS FOUND.

SURFER ARRESTED (VANDALISM) 3/20/13 8:00a DMF

A PLEASURE POINT SURFER WAS ARRESTED FOR VANDALIZING THE VEHICLE OF A STANDUP PADDLEBOARDER MONDAY.       THE PADDLEBOARDER CALLED 911 ON SATURDAY AFTER HIS VEHICLE HAD BEEN VANDALIZED A THIRD TIME PARKED NEAR 38th AVENUE AND EAST CLIFF DRIVE.   HE HAD RECENTLY INSTALLED A CAMERA ON HIS VEHICLE AFTER THE SECOND INCIDENT.     THE VANDAL WAS CAUGHT ON CAMERA SCRATCHING DEEP 6 TO 8 INCH LINES ON THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE ESTIMATED AT CAUSING 3,000 DOLLARS IN DAMAGE. 62-YEAR-OLD DONALD WARREN DARST WAS ARRESTED ON SUSPICION OF VANDALISM AND BOOKED AND RELEASED FROM SANTA CRUZ COUNTY JAIL.

SECOND HARVEST FALLS SHORT 3/20/13 8:00a DMF

THE SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK HAS FALLEN 300 THOUSAND DOLLARS SHORT IF IT’S “HOLIDAY FOOD AND FUND DRIVE” TARGET.    THE DRIVE WAS ONLY ABLE TO RAISE 12.1 MILLION DOLLARS WHICH IS SHORT OF THE 12.4 MILLION GOAL.    SPOKESWOMAN CAITLIN KERK SAID THAT BECAUSE OF THIS, SOME WHO RELY ON THE FOOD BANK COULD GO HUNGRY.

LOVERS POINT ADVISORY 3/20/13 8:00a DMF

 

SIGNS INDICATING HIGH LEVELS OF BACTERIA HAVE BEEN POSTED AT LOVERS POINT BEACH IN PACIFIC GROVE.  THE ADVISORY SIGNS WILL REMAIN POSTED UNTIL THE WATER RETURNS TO A SAFE LEVEL FOR CONTACT.  ANIMALS, RAINFALL RUNOFF, STORM DRAINS AND HUMAN ACTIVITY ARE ALL SOURCES OF BACTERIA THAT CAN CAUSE THESE ELEVATED LEVELS.   IT IS RECOMMENDED NOT TO SWIM IN OR HAVE CONTACT WITH STORM DRAIN WATER.
