lompico water prelim hearing 12/01/11 0600 E.A.

a former lompico water district manager charged with filing false water quality reports is due in court for a preliminary hearing.  michael eggleston was charged with 9 counts of filing false reports to show that the district was complying with the california safe drinking water act.  eggleston was charged with 5 felonies and 4 misdemeanor counts of making false statements or representations in reports filed in 2009.  a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for january 17th.   

tedxwomen –s.v. 12/01/11 0600 E.A.

a live stream of the ted-x-women event is set to be shown at the scotts valley library today at 11 a.m.  more than 100 communities will carry the stream as experts and leaders talk about how women and girls are changing the world.  ted stands for technology, entertainment and design, it is a large organization that organizes and arranges panels of experts to give short speeches on a variety of topics.  the ted-x-women event is set to be carried from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, you can view it ay the scotts valley library at 251 kings village road.   

occupy s.c. – vacant building 12/01/11 0600 E.A.

santa cruz police clad in riot gear responded to river street last night to remove “occupy santa cruz” protestors that had taken over vacant building on river street last night.  demonstrators made entry into the former “coast commercial bank” building late in the AFTERNOON and hung a banner from the roof that read “occupy everything”.  just after 6 p.m., about 30 officers responded to remove the protestors, but eventually left because the situation was determined to be unsafe.  demonstrators are still occupying the building, the owner of the property has said that he wants the police to remove the protestors for trespassing.   

CARMEL HIGHLANDS FIRE -12/01/11 05:35P S.S.

 A  FIRE  IN  A  CARMEL  HIGHLANDS  HOTEL  LAST  NIGHT  CAUSED  ABOUT 20  THOUSAND  DOLLARS  WORTH  OF  DAMAGE  TO  THE  FACILITY.    THE  BLAZE (THAT  DAMAGED  2  ROOMS  OF  THE  HYATT  HOTEL)  BROKE  OUT AROUND  8  P.M.     FIREFIGHTERS  FROM  ACROSS  THE MONTEREY  PENINSULA  HAD  TO  BREAK  HOLES  IN  THE  ROOF  OF  THE  18  THOUSAND  SQUARE  FOOT  STRUCTURE…BUT  WERE  ABLE  TO  KEEP  THE DAMAGE  DOWN  TO  2  ROOMS.  

NO  ONE  WAS  INJURED  IN  THIS INCIDENT  AND  FIRE  INVESTIGATORS  ARE STILL  WORKING TO  ETERMINE  WHAT STARTED  THE  FIRE.   

competency hearing – cheryl busch 11/30/11 1630 e.a.

a hearing was held this morning to determine if a san benito county woman accused of shooting and killing her 19-month old daughter in 2008 is mentally competent to stand trial.  a judge ruled for the second time that 41 year old cheryl busch is competent to stand trial.  busch spent nearly 9 months in patton state hospital last year, after which she was ruled competent to stand trial.  her attorney filed another motion for a competency hearing 3 months ago.  a trial has been set for february 27th at the san benito county courthouse.
