WVILLE GANG-RELATED SHOOTING 02-02-11 12:25 a.v.

A man was treated and released from a local hospital after he suffered a gunshot to the arm last night in Watsonville. Police say the man was shot after a group of men pulled up in a light-colored 1990’s Ford sedan at around 11:30 while the man was sitting in his parked car on the 600 block of Trafton Road. The group rushed the man's vehicle and began banging on the car while yelling gang affiliated slogans before someone in the group fired multiple shots as the victim drove away. Investigations into the shooting continue.

S.C. NOT GUILTY PLEA 02-02-11 11:50 a.v.

A not guilty plea was made this morning by a man who threatened to sexually assault a woman at knife point in a downtown Santa Cruz Parking lot Sunday afternoon. Police say former Colorado resident, Gary Oran Smith, who recently arrived into town, is a registered sex offender in Colorado and was not yet required to register in Santa Cruz. Smith pleaded not guilty to charges of assault with intent to rape and assault with a deadly weapon. He is due back in court on february 16th.

LAFCO APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED 02-02-11 11:40 a.v.

Monterey County supervisors Lou Calcagno and Simon Salinas were reappointed to the Local Agency Formation Commission yesterday along with Dave Potter, as an alternate. The appointments come despite a bid by a board chairwoman to substitute one of them on the governing Body. A lengthy debate was reported following a request for a public review of the commission appointment, which was ultimately rejected by the board.

SALINAS ARMED ROBBERY 02-02-11 11:20 a.v.

Police in Salinas say a woman was robbed at gunpoint last night while she was walking on Chardonnay Drive towards Zinfandel Way. A passenger, who got out of a red 4-door 1990’s Honda approached her with a gun and demanded “everything” the victim had. The suspect took off with the woman’s purse, her necklace and cell phone. He was last seen driving towards McKinnon. Anyone with any information, is asked to contact the Salinas Police Department.

M.H. BURGLARY WARNINGS 02-02-11 10:30 a.v.

Police in Morgan Hill remind residents to take extra precaution after a string of burglaries have occurred in the city. Police say vehicle, home and business burglaries are on the rise and continue with most of the auto and commercial burglaries occurring Monday through Thursday between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.  While many of the residential burglaries were reported during the day between the hours of 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. Police say reduce future incidents by shutting car windows, locking doors and removing all valuable items from unattended vehicles, and follow similar procedures at home, such as locking all doors and window, leave a light or radio on at home, and install an alarm-system or motion-sensing lights around the exterior of the home.
