THE OWNER OF A POPULAR SURF SCHOOL WAS IN COURT ON FRIDAY FOR A PRELIMINARY HEARING. 38 YEAR OLD DYLAN GREINER, WAS ARRESTED IN AUGUST OF THIS YEAR AND JAILED ON ONE MILLION DOLLARS BAIL, HE WAS ACCUSED OF ALLEGEDLY COMMITTING LEWD AND LASCIVIOUS ACTS AGAINST AN UNDERAGE FEMALE, AS WELL AS TAKING SEXUALLY-CHARGED PHOTOS OF SEVERAL YOUNG GIRLS AT BEACHES AND POOLS. THE HEARING WILL CONTINUE ON JANUARY 15TH, TO DETERMINE WHICH CHARGES HE WILL FACE AT TRIAL.

CAMBRIA MAN DUI 12/22/13 1440 GE

A MAN HAS PLED GUILTY FOR DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE THAT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, INJURING SEVERAL MEMBERS OF A FAMILY. IN NOVEMBER, GREGORIO FLORES, OF CAMBRIA, WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 101 NORTH OF EAST GARRISON ROAD, WHEN HE COLLIDED HEAD-ON WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. HE ALLEGEDLY LEFT THE SCENE, LEAVING A FAMILY OF FOUR TRAPPED INSIDE THEIR VEHICLE. ACCORDING TO THE MONTEREY COUNTY D-A’S OFFICE , THREE ADULTS AND ONE CHILD HAD TO BE EXTRICATED FROM THE VEHICLE. TWO ADULTS SUFFERED MAJOR INJURIES TO THE EXTREMITIES OF THE BODY AND THE CHILD SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES. FLORES WAS FOUND BY THE POLICE LATER ON AND TESTED FOR AN ALCOHOL LEVEL OF .16 PERCENT. HE IS EXPECTED TO BE SENTENCED TO AT LEAST 9 YEARS IN PRISON.

ONE OF SANTA CRUZ COUNTY’S NEEDLE EXCHANGE GROUPS WILL STOP ITS SERVICES ON DECEMBER 31ST.   THE STREET OUTREACH SERVICES ORGANIZATION, CONTROVERSIAL PROGRAM THAT OPERATED A HOME DELIVEREY EXCHANGE PROGRAM WILL BE DISSOLVING THE ORGANIZATION AT YEARS END. SOURCES SAY THE DECISION TO DISBAND CAME AFTER THE DEATH OF A KEY MEMBER OF THE GROUP. 34 YEAR OLD EMILY AGER, DESCRIBED AS THE GROUPS DRIVING FORCE DIED UNEXPECTEDLY IN OCTOBER.

PAJARO RIVER BED-12/22/13-1246-PMD

VOLUNTEERS PULLED TIRES FROM THE PAJARO RIVER BED ON SATURDAY.   AS PART OF THEIR PLAN TO HELP STEELHEAD AND TROUT MAKE A FULL RECOVERY IN THE PAJARO RIVER, 8 VOLUNTEERS FROM THE Coastal Habitat Education and Environmental Restoration OR CHEER ORGANIZATION AND FROM TROUT UNLIMITED USED 3 ATVs TO PULL OVER 100 TIRES FROM A SMALL SECTION OF THE DRY RIVERBED. MOST OF THE TIRES ARE BELIEVED TO HAVE FLOATED DOWN STREAM; HOWEVER AUTHORITIES DID UNCOVER AN ILLEGAL DUMP SITE OF THOUSANDS OF TIRES BACK IN JANUARY.  THE GROUP SAYS THAT REMOVING ALL THE REFUSE IS JUST THE FIRST STEP IN RECLAIMING THE RIVER FOR WILD LIFE.

LIVE OAK DEATH-12/22/13-1156-PMD

A 67 YEAR OLD WOMAN WAS FOUND DEAD IN A LIVE OAK APARTMENT SATURDAY EVENING.   AT AROUND 4:50 P-M SANTA CRUZ SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES RESPONDED TO A REPORT OF AN UN RESPONSIVE WOMAN IN AN APARTMENT ON THE 14-HUNDRED BLOCK OF 30TH AVENUE TO FIND THE WOMAN DEAD.    THE CAUSE OF DEATH IS UNDER INVESTIGATION ND THE WOMAN'S IDENTITY IS BEING WITHELD PENDING NOTIFICATION OF FAMILY MEMBERS.
