AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Update 01-14-21 16:10 DC

The only stars at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this year will be the players and the golf course.

The spike in COVID-19 cases in California led organizers to cancel the pro-am portion of a tournament

The tournament also is losing one of its golf courses. The 156-man field on Feb. 11-14 will be held only at Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill. It typically includes the Shore course at Monterey Peninsula Country Club.

The tournament will have a pro-am on Wednesday at Pebble Beach, as other PGA Tour events have done in recent months. John said that would primarily be for the secondary sponsors that have helped the Monterey Peninsula Foundation raise more than $176 million for charitable contributions in three neighboring counties.

The tournament still plans a charity component targeting COVID-related needs such as food, health, and education.

This was to be the 75th anniversary of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am since moving to the Monterey Peninsula in 1947 as the Bing Crosby Pro-Am, and celebrities have been a major part of the scene ever since.

Monterey SPCA Saves Injured Screech Owl 01-14-21 15:16 DC

The SPCA’s Monterey Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center has released an owl back into the wild after it hit a car and severely injured.

KION Television reports that the incident occurred on Avenida Principal off Corral de Tierra on Monday, November 30th when the driver felt something "loud and hard" hit the passenger side of his car.

Initially, the driver believed that he hit a small child and stopped the car, only to find an injured screech owl in the gutter.

KION says the owl sustained a number of injuries including retinal detachment, retinal and intravitreal hemorrhage, and scarring inside the eye that would lead to a life of chronic pain without surgery.

SPCA Veterinarians successfully performed the owl's surgery and the owl has since recovered. The owl has been released into the wild where he was originally found.
