POSSESSION OF METH FOR SALE - 06-17-2013 T.F.

A 41 year old was arrested by the salinas police department.     Freddy Fonseca had a suspended license and was in possession of methamphetamines.     He was charged with  possession of ammunition,       driving on a  suspended license,  and possession of meth for sales.

DEATH ON BIG SUR - 06/17/13 08:52 S.S.

ONE  PERSON  DIED  AS  THE  RESULT  OF  WHAT  APPEARS  TO  HAVE  BEEN  A  SOLO-VEHICLE  ACCIDENT  IN BIG  SUR.       THE  PERSON  WAS  DECLARED  DEAD  YESTERDAY (SUNDAY)  AFTERNOON  AFTER  THE  VEHICLE  WENT  OFF  THE  ROADWAY  AND,   INTO  THE  BUSHES  NEAR  PFEIFFER  BIG  SUR  STATE  PARK.

SV ROADS REOPENED SUN. NIGHT - 06/17/13 08:55 S.S.

A  FIRE,   NEAR  SCOTTS  VALLEY  MIDDLE  SCHOOL, CAUSED  AUTHORITIES  TO  CLOSE  SEVERAL  ROADS  IN  THE  AREA.      THE  INVESTIGATION  INTO  THE  CAUSE  OF  THAT  FIRE  IS  ON-GOING,  HOWEVER,  THE ROADWAYS  WERE  RE-OPENED  LAST  NIGHT.

A  DIVER,  WHO  WENT  MISSING  YESTERDAY  (SUNDAY)  MORNING,  IS  BEING  SOUGHT.     THAT  AFTER  HE  WAS  REPORTED  MISSING  AROUND  11  A.M.  OFF  THE MONTEREY  SHORELINE.      THE  DIVER’S  TRUCK  WAS  FOUND  PARKED  IN  THE  SAN  CARLOS  BEACH PARKING  LOT.

JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION -06/16/13 16:00 GE

THE ANNUAL JUNETEENTH (june-teenth) CELEBRATION TOOK PLACE ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON, AT LOUDEN NELSON CENTER PARK,  IN DOWNTOWN SANTA CRUZ. THE CELEBRATION IS A TRADITION AMONGST BLACK-AMERICAN COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY.  IT COMMEMORATES JUNE 19TH, 1865,  THE YEAR THAT UNION GENERAL GORDON GRANGER CAME INTO GALVESTON, TEXAS, WITH THE INFORMATION THAT THE CIVIL WAR WAS OVER AND SLAVERY WAS ABOLISHED. THE DATE WAS CELEBRATED OFF AND ON OVER THE DECADES, UNTIL IT WAS DEEMED A NATIONAL HOLIDAY BY THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE IN 1980. THE YOUNG AND ELDERLY, OF ALL RACES,  WERE PRESENT TO ENJOY FOOD, GAMES,  AND LOTS OF MUSIC.  THE SANTA CRUZ VERSION OF THIS HOLIDAY HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE SINCE 1983.
