gilroy police are looking for those responsible for stealing more than 5-thousand dollars worth of equipment from a gilroy car dealership saturday night.  an unknown number of suspects broke into the under construction gilroy toyota delearship on chestnut street and stole 4 computers, a flat-screen television, and an 800 dollar industrial coffee maker.  anyone with any information is asked to contact the gilroy police department.

he city of seaside saw over a thousand people waving flags and holding banners at the city’s 26th annual dr. martin luther king junior march on monday.  among the numerous supporters, several groups attended the event, such as the girl scouts, the monterey chapter of the american civil liberties union, and the african american hiv/aids wellness program. members of alpha phi alpha came to the march, the same fraternity to which dr. king belonged.

mo.co. board of ed. redistrict 01/17/12 0600 e.a.

a proposal for the redistricting of 7 trustee areas of the monterey county board of education will present its RECOMMENDED plan at a meeting on wednesday.  the plan will be presented to the county committee on school district organization. the meeting is slated for 5:30 p.m. at the county office of education in rooms a and b.

baby found in motel 01/17/12 0600 e.a.

two people were arrested monday on suspicion of child endangerment, after santa cruz county sheriff’s deputies received reports that their baby was crawling around an aptos motel unattended.  around 11 a.m., sheriff’s deputies took a call from employees of the rio sands motel that a little boy was crawling around the motel and they could not find his parents.  the grandmother of the child was contacted a short time later, her boyfriend was inside a motel room with drugs in plain view.  46 year old kristin magors and 40 year old abi mckee were arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and drug possession.  the baby was unhurt and placed in child protective services.

officials at watsonville based fox racing shox have announced that they might consider leaving the city if a program that gives tax incentives for businesses that hire locally is not renewed.  the enterprise zone program, which is state funded, also offers incentives to businesses to purchase equipment and to banks to make low-interest loans to businesses.  company officials told city leaders that they would explore economically friendlier options if the program was discontinued.
