A SATURDAY MORNING SHOOTING IN SALINAS LEFT A 26 YEAR OLD MAN HOSPITALIZED IN SERIOUS CONDITION.   THE SHOOTING TOOK PLACE AT ABOUT 10:30 A-M ON THE 13 HUNDRED BLOCK OF GRANDHAVEN ROAD.   POLICE RESPONDED TO THE SCENE TO FIND THE VICTIM SUFFERING FROM MULTIPLE GUNSHOT WOUNDS, HE WAS TAKEN TO A BAY AREA TRAUMA CENTER, WHERE HE IS LISTED AS IN SERIOUS BUT STABLE CONDITION. AUTHORITIES ARE LOOKING FOR TO MEN SEEN FLEEING THE SCENE.   THE INCIDENT IS BELIEVEDTO BE GAND RELATED.

MAN SHOOTS/SELF FLEEING POLICE-9/6/13-15:29-PMD

2 SALINAS MEN WERE ARRESTED WEDNESDAY THAT AFTER 1 OF THE SUSPECTS SHOT HIMSELF TRYING TO FLEE POLICE.   THE INCIDENT BEGAN ABOUT 10:30 P-M WHEN OFFICERS PATROLLING CLOSE TO EAST MARKET STREET AND NORTH FELICE, NOTICED 2 MEN IN A VEHICLE BEHAVING SUSPICIOUSLY.     WHEN POLICE APPROACHED THE CAR, THEY SAW THE PASSENGER TRYING TO HIDE SOMETHING AND THEN OPEN THE DOOR, AS 26 YEAR OLD OSCAR RESENDIZ TRIED TO FLEE THE VEHICLE, THE GUN HE WAS TRYING TO HIDE IN HIS PANTS DISCHARGED, RESULTING IN A BULLET WOUND TO 1 OF HIS LEGS.      A SEARCH OF THE VEHICLE UNCOVERED DRUGS AND A GUN.     THE DRIVER 23 YEAR OLD GERARDO CERNA WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO THE MONTEREY COUNTY JAIL.    RESENDIZ WAS TREATED FOR THE GUNSHOT WOUND THEN BOOKED ON DRUG AND WEAPONS CHARGES.

MEMBERS OF A MONTEREY COUNTY UNION RALLIED YESTERDAY FOR THE FINALIZATION OF A NEW CONTRACT DEAL.    ABOUT 200 MEMBERS OF THE SERVICE EMPLOYEES INTERNATIONAL UNION LOCAL 521 THREATENED TO WALK OFF THE JOB IF A NEW DEAL REGARDING A NEW PAY AND BENEFITS PACKAGE ISN’T REACHED SOON.   THE UNION’S CURRENT CONTRACT WILL EXPIRE NEXT TUESDAY.    THE NEXT DEAL IS EXPECTED TO ADDRESS ISSUES OF WORKER FURLOUGHS, PENSION AND HEALTH CARE COSTS

SECURITY FRAUD CONVICTION 09-06-2013 07:30 av

A BUSINESS PARTNER OF A FORMER MONTEREY COUNTY TALK SHOW HOST WAS FOUND GUILTY OF FRAUD THIS WEEK.  SEASIDE RESIDENT 62-YEAR OLD MICHAEL SWANSON WAS CONVICTED OF FEDERAL MAIL AND SECURITIES FRAUD ALONG WITH CONSPIRACY.   SWANSON WAS A PARTNER WITH “MONEY DOTS” RADIO PRODUCER BARBRA ALEXANDER IN THE MONTEREY-BASED FIRM APS FUNDING.   SWANSON AND ANOTHER PARTNER, BETH PINA WERE INDICTED ALONG WITH ALEXANDER IN OCTOBER 2010.   PINA PLEADED GUILTY TO SIMILAR CHARGES LAST DECEMBER, WHILE ALEXANDER PLEADED INNOCENT.  A TRIAL IS SLATED FOR ALEXANDER ON NOVEMBER 4TH. SWANSON FACES UP TO 20-YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON AND MORE THAN 5-MILLION DOLLARS IN FINES AND RESTITUTION.  HE IS SLATED TO BE SENTENCED DECEMBER 18TH.

SALINAS PLASTIC COMPANY NEW LOCATION 09-06-2013 07:00 av

A SALINAS PLASTIC COMPANY REOPENED IN A NEW LOCATION YESTERDAY (THURS) AFTER BEING DEVASTATED BY A FIRE LAST YEAR.    DUNHAM PLASTICS IS NOW CALLING IT’S NEW DIGS ON PELLET AVENUE HOME AFTER A WAREHOUSE FIRE LAST JUNE FORCED THE COMPANY TO LOOK FOR A NEW BUILDING.  THE OWNERS SAY THEY WERE STILL ABLE TO OPERATE THE BUSINESS, AND RESUMED PRODUCTION A WEEK LATER UNDER TARPS PROVIDED BY COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
