Preliminary hearing, attmpt murder 01/13/12 5:15p.m. TDH

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for a 35-year-old man who is accused of stabbing another man.  Raul perez Rodriguez is scheduled to appear in a santa cruz county courtroom on april 16th.  He is facing charges of attempted murder and violation of parole, for allegedly stabbing a man through the window of the victim’s car, as the victim backed his car out of a bixby street driveway last October.   The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.

an art show and fundraiser to memorialize a 14 year old morgan hill shooting vitim is scheduled for today.  the event, titled “Your Words Have Power” will feature performances by local bands, art and poetry presentations and community speakers.  tara romero was killed in november of last year in a drive by shooting on the cormer of cosmo and del monte avenues. the event is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. and run until 8 at sobrato high school.  tickets are 15 dollars.

the c.e.o. of the california high-speed rail authority has announced plans to resign.  roelf van ark will officially step down over the next 60 days and serve as an adviser to the project through the end of the year.  authority board chair tom umberg also announced his resignation, and has nominated board member dan richard as his replacement.  the board is expected to vote on a new chair next month.

murder retrial sought 01/13/12 0630 e.a. t

he sentencing of a santa cruz man convicted in august of killing a los angeles man has been delayed.  the attorney for 41 year old kenneth clamp plans to submit a motion for a retrial.  if the motion is denied, clamp faces 35 years to life in prison for the murder of 29 year old elias sorokin in july of 2009. sorokin was killed during a marijuana deal at a home in santa cruz, his body has not yet been found.
