a watsonville man was arrested early sunday morning. santa cruz county SHERIFF’S deputies stopped a vehicle shortly after midnight near monument avenue and buena vista drive. the deputies found that the driver,26 year old alex nicholas wishard was in violATION OF PROBATION AND DRIVING ON A SUSPENDED LICENSE. A SEARCH OF THE VEHICLE TURNED UP MARIJUANA AND STOLEN PROPERTY BELONGING TO AT LEAST 19 VICTIMS. WISHARD WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO SANTA CRUZ COUNTY JAIL.
the santa cruz police department swore in 3 new police officers last week. that brings the total of officers to 91. the department is still 3 officers short of the 94 officers it needs, in order to meet the law enforcement needs of the community. 1 of the officers was on the santa cruz police force from 1996 to 2006.
ryan coonerty announced his plans to run for a seat on the santa cruz county board of SUPERVISOR today (monday). coonerty is a former mayor of santa cruz, he has also served on the city council. the former mayor and council member hopes to fill the seat on the board of supervisors in the 2014 election, that WILL be vacated by his father, county supervisor neal coonerty who is retiring.
The Tassajara Fire remains at 90% containment. It has burned 213 acres since it started last Wednesday. The remaining 10% is in an inaccessible area. Crews began suppression repair, trash backhaul, patrol and mop-up today. Demobilization began today as well. No evacuations are in effect. Tassajara Ridge Road is expected to reopen tomorrow. The Jamesburg-Tassajara Road is currently open only to residents.

The Rancho Fire, which started Friday 2 miles north of Lebec, but has moved into the eastern side of that portion of the Los Padres National Forest, has burned 722 acres, and is 92% contained. Full Containment of that fire is expected this Wednesday.
