SALINAS PROSTITUTION STING - 03/02/13 13:44 S.S.

A  FRIDAY  NIGHT  “PROSTITUTION  STING” IN  SALINAS  LED  TO  THE  ARREST  OF  6  WOMEN.    THE  STING  WAS  A  JOINT  EFFORT  BY SEVERAL  LAW  ENFORCEMENT  AGENCIES.    ALL  6  WOMEN  WERE  BOOKED  INTO  MONTEREY COUNTY  JAIL.

GREENFIELD SHOOTING - 03/02/13 13:37 S.S.

A  MAN,   WHO  SUFFERED  A  SMALL  CALIBER  GUNSHOT  WOUND  IN  GREENFIELD LAST  NIGHT,   WAS  AIRLIFTED  TO   A  BAY  AREA  TRAUMA  CENTER  AS  A  PRECAUTION.     THE  8:30 P.M.  SHOOTING   OCCURRED  AT  8:30 P.M.  IN  A  PARK  NEAR  THE  INTERSECTION  OF  SOUTH  EL  CAMINO  REAL  AND  ELM  AVENUE.     THE  VICTIM  SAID  THE  2  MEN  INVOLVED  MADE  GANG  STATEMENTS  TO  HIM  BEFORE  SHOOTING  HIM.   ANYONE  WITH  ANY  INFORMATION  ABOUT  THIS  INCIDENT  IS  ENCOURAGED  TO CONTACT  THE  GREENFIELD  POLICE  DEPARTMENT.

ARE GREAT WHITE SHARKS ENDANGERED? - 03/01/13 19:53 S.S.

STATE  OFFICIALS  ARE  CONSIDERING  WHETHER  TO  PUT  GREAT  WHITE  SHARKS ON  THE  ENDANGERED  SPECIES LIST.    WHILE  THAT  STEP  IS  BEING  CONSIDERED,  GREAT  WHITES WILL  BE  TREATED  AS  THOUGH  THEY  ARE ENDANGERED.  THE  PROTECTION  ACTUALLY  BEGAN  TODAY (FRIDAY),  AND  DURING  THE  REVIEW  PROCESS  STATE  RESEARCHERS  PLAN  TO  PUT TOGETHER  A  BETTER  ESTIMATE  OF  THE GREAT  WHITE SHARK  POPULATION.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY IN WVILLE - 03/01/13 19:50 S.S.

2  TEENS  WERE  ARRESTED  IN  WATSONVILLE  AFTER  ONE  RESIDENT  REPORTED  A  RESIDENTIAL  BURGLARY  TAKING  PLACE  AT  A  NEIGHBOR’S  HOME,  AND  ANOTHER  FLAGGED DOWN  A  SHERIFF’S  DEPUTY  TO  SAY  HE’D  SEEN  THE  2  MALES  JUMP  HIS  FENCE.    THE  BURGLARY  OCCURRED  THURSDAY  MORNING  IN  THE  AREA  OF  RAINBOW  LANE  AND  PHILLIPS  ROAD.     THE  TWO 18  YEAR-OLDS,  PABLO  RUIZ AND  ENRIQUE  ZAMORA WERE  BOOKED  INTO  SANTA  CRUZ  COUNTY  JAIL.   THEY  FACE  CHARGES  OF  SUSPICION  OF  1ST DEGREE  BURGLARY, POSSESSION  OF STOLEN  PROPERTY,  LOITERING  ON  PRIVATE  PROPERTY,  TAMPERING WITH  A  VEHICLE,  AND  VANDALISM.

MONTEREY CO. HEALTHCARE - 03/01/2013 19:45 PMD

ON MONDAY,  MONTEREY COUNTY IS SCHEDULED TO IMPLEMENT A NEW LOW INCOME HEALTH PLAN FOR ITS RESIDENTS.     U.S. CITIZENS (BETWEEN  19 AND 64 YEARS OLD) WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR MEDICAL COVERAGE,  IF THEIR INCOME IS UNDER THE POVERTY LEVEL  (OF  APPROXIMATELY 11-THOUSAND DOLLARS PER YEAR, PER  INDIVIDUAL).    VIACARE MONTEREY COUNTY WILL COVER 500 (CURRENTLY UNINSURED) PEOPLE,  WHILE THEY WAIT TO TRANSITION TO COVERAGE UNDER THE  AFFORDABLE CARE ACT NEXT JANUARY.
