Examples of Family Friendly Workplace policies include: flex-time, sick time for children’s illnesses, AND WORKPLACE CHILDCARE. the Family Friendly Workplace Awards are also honoring employers that have breastfeeding specific policies, both formal and informal.  NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN UNTIL JUNE 27TH.  forms are available on the United Way of Santa Cruz County WEBSITE:   united way sc.org

KING CITY PINE CANYON RD SHOOTING UPDATE- 05-28-14 8:30 SG

A KING CITY MAN DIED FROM THE INJURIES HE SUSTAINED IN A SHOOTING TUESDAY NIGHT.    MONTEREY COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES RESPONDED TO REPORTS OF SHOTS FIRED ON PINE CANYON ROAD JUST AFTER 9 P-M.    20-YEAR-OLD JOHN FLORES WAS FOUND WITH SEVERAL GUNSHOT WOUNDS AND TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL, WHERE HE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD.    DEPUTIES ARE LOOKING FOR A DARK-COLORED CHEVY THAT WAS SEEN LEAVING THE SCENE OF THE SHOOTING AT HIGH SPEEDS.

OUT-OF-STATE GUN BILL PASSES- 05-29-14 10:30 SG

THE STATE ASSEMBLY HAS PASSED A BILL THAT ADDRESSES OUT-OF-STATE GUN PURCHASES.    A-B-1-4-0-9 WOULD REQUIRE CALIFORNIANS TO GO THROUGH THE SAME STEPS TO PURCHASE A GUN FROM SOURCES OUT-OF-STATE AS THEY WOULD IN-STATE. THE PROPOSAL WOULD ALSO REQUIRE THAT GUNS FROM OUTSIDE THE STATE BE DELIVERED DIRECTLY TO CALIFORNIA SELLERS.    IF SIGNED INTO LAW, THE BILL WOULD TAKE EFFECT IN 2015.

SALINAS COMMUNITY POLICE TRUST ISSUES- 05-29-14 10:00 SG

SALINAS COMMUNITY MEMBERS GATHERED YESTERDAY (WED) TO DISCUSS STREET VIOLENCE AND TRUST ISSUES WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT.    MORE THAN 100 ATTENDED THE MEETING AT EMMANUEL BILINGUAL BAPTIST CHURCH FOLLOWING TWO RECENT POLICE-INVOLVED SHOOTINGS.    ATTENDEES CAME TOGETHER TO DISCUSS PEACEFUL SOLUTIONS AFTER VIOLENCE BROKE OUT IN A PROTEST LAST WEEK.  THE COMMUNITY GROUPS PRESENT PLAN TO HOLD MORE MEETINGS IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS.

MONTEREY COUNTY TALK ACQUIRING CAPITAL ONE BLDGS- 05-29-14 8:30 SG

MONTEREY COUNTY OFFICIALS ARE LOOKING INTO THE ACQUISITION OF THE FORMER CAPITAL ONE FACILITIES IN SALINAS.    THE CREDIT CARD PROCESSING CENTER LEFT THE BUILDINGS IN 2012.    SEVERAL BUSINESS ASSOCIATIONS DISCUSSED THE FUTURE OF THE PROPERTY EARLIER THIS MONTH. THE COMMUNITY IS NOW ENCOURAGED TO GIVE THEIR INPUT AT A MEETING FROM 5-TO-7 P-M, NEXT THURSDAY, JUNE 5TH, IN THE MONTEREY ROOM IN SALINAS.
