PANCAKE BREAKFAST 5/16/13 9:00a DMF

NORTH MONTEREY COUNTY FIREFIGHTERS ARE SCHEDULED TO HOLD AN ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT PANCAKE BREAKFAST IN CASTROVILLE THIS WEEKEND.  IT FEATURES PANCAKES, SAUASGE, EGGS, FRESH BERRIES, JUICE AND COFFEE AND WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE CASTROVILLE FIRE STATION AT 11200 SPEEGLE STREET.   PROCEEDS GO TO THE RESERVE FIREFIGHTERS ASSOCIATION THE COST IS 8 DOLLARS FOR ADULTS AND 6 FOR CHILDREN.   THE BREAKFAST STARTS AT 6:30 A-M AND RUNS UNTIL 10:30 ON BOTH SATURDAY AND SUNDAY.    FOR MORE INFORMATION CALL 633-2578.

MONTEREY DOWNS EXTENSION 5/16/13 9:00a DMF

THE SEASIDE CITY COUNCIL WILL CONSIDER GIVING AN EXTENSION TO THE MONTEREY DOWNS PROJECT IN A COUNCIL MEETING THIS EVENING.     MONTEREY DOWNS ENTERED INTO AN EXCLUSIVE DEAL WITH THE CITY OF SEASIDE IN 2010 NEGOTIATING RIGHTS OF THE PROPOSED 550-ACRE PROJECT ON FORT ORD THAT INCLUDES HOMES, TWO HOTELS AND A HORSE RACETRACK.    TONIGHT, THE COUNCIL WILL LOOK INTO APPROVING AN 18th MONTH EXTENSION ON NEGOTIATIONS UNTIL DECEMBER 2014.

DOG BITES 5/16/13 8:00a DMF

ACCORDING TO STATE FARM INSURANCE CALIFORNIA HAS THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF DOG BITE CLAIMS.    AT LEAST ONE DOG BITE REPORT IS FILED IN SALINAS EVERY DAY, AND IN RESPONSE THE ANIMAL SHELTER HAS CREATED A PROGRAM FOR POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS DOGS.  IN 2003 ALMOST 17 THOUSAND DOG BITE CLAIMS WERE MADE COSTING 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS EACH ON AVERAGE.     IF BITTEN IT IS RECOMMENDED TO SEE A DOCTOR REGARDLESS OF SEVERITY OF THE BITE.

ARIAS ELIGIBLE FOR DEATH PENALTY - 05/15/13 20:26 S.S

 

SALINAS NATIVE JODI ARIAS CAN RECEIVE THE DEATH PENALTY FOR KILLING HER FORMER BOYFRIEND, TRAVIS ALEXANDER. THE SAME JURY THAT CONVICTED ARIAS OF MURDER A WEEK AGO, TOOK ONLY 3 HOURS TODAY TO DECIDE SHE IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE DEATH PENALTY. THE FINAL PHASE OF THIS ARIZONA COURT CASE IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN TOMORROW (THURSDAY) MORNING.

SALINAS TEACHERS RATIFY CONTRACT - 05/15/13 20:16 S.S.

TEACHERS, IN THE SALINAS UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT, HAVE OVERWHELMINGLY VOTED TO RATIFY A NEW CONTRACT. ABOUT HALF OF THE TEACHERS CAST BALLOTS IN TUESDAY'S ELECTION.....WITH MORE THAN 97 PERCENT VOTING TO APPROVE THE NEW CONTRACT. IT'S NOW UP TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO EITHER APPROVE OR REJECT THE NEW CONTRACT. IF the BOARD APPROVES IT, THE CONTRACT WILL COVER FROM JULY 1 OF 2012 UNTIL JUNE 30 OF 2015. THIS NEW CONTRACT IS SAID TO BE THE SAME AS THE TENTATIVE AGREEMENT REACHED BY BOTH SIDES APRIL 25 .

THE TEACHERS' PREVIOUS CONTRACT EXPIRED IN JUNE OF 2011.
