Body Found in Van in Boulder Creek 11/19/10 0800 E.A.

The remains of a Boulder Creek man were found in his van parked on his property. Sheriff's Deputies estimate that 50 year-old Richard Hawley died in the van about 2 years ago. The body was discovered when a neighbor approached the van to try to have it removed. No foul play is suspected, and Hawley was determined to have died from natural causes.

WVILLE FURLOUGH SHUTDOWNS 11-19-10 08:30 a.v.

Starting tomorrow, Watsonville’s 2 libraries will be closed for one week. The closing is part of a city holiday and furlough shutdown. Other city services will not be available next Monday November 22nd through Friday November 26th with the exception of police and fire response and garbage collection. MORE STAFF POSSIBLE FOR P.V. SCHOOLS 11-19-10 08:30 a.v.

Schools in the Pajaro Valley could see more staff next year since state funding, which was cut last year, has now been restored. School board officials are now considering hiring additional office personnel, librarians and teachers as a way of spending 3.3 million dollars in Federal Stimulus funding, which has been provided for job creation. Library Technicians are some of the positions which were cut last year but have since been restored through the end of the current school year.

A proposal for the 2011-2012 school year is considering adding relief teachers for kindergarten through 3rd grade teachers and keeping the library technicians on the job as well as adding one counselor at each of the middle schools.

S.C. NUTRITIONALS NEW OWNERSHIP 11-18-10 20:00 a.v.

One of the largest employers in the city of Santa Cruz changed ownership today. Santa Cruz Nutritionals will now be owned by a private equity firm based in Los Angeles, who has partnered with management of the vitamin manufacturer to complete the acquisition for an undisclosed price. The C-E-O of Santa Cruz Nutritionals describes the change as replacing one group of investors with another. The company uses proprietary formulas to manufacture gummy-based nutritional products and dietary supplements at it’s plant located at 22-hundred Delaware Avenue.

CA. COASTAL COMMISSION MTG. 11-18-10 19:50 a.v.

During a meeting today, the California Coastal Commission agreed on several issues concerning the Santa Cruz’s Arana Gulch project and the harbor. Commissioners decided to grant the city of Santa Cruz a waiver to bring back the Arana Gulch bike path and tarplant restoration project before April. The commission also agreed to grant the Santa Cruz Port District a 6-month extension on it’s permit to dredge in the harbor area. The extension affords the Port District time to review the dredging operation, which is needed every winter to allow boats to enter the harbor.
