THE  6TH ANNUAL  PEBBLE  BEACH  FOOD  AND  WINE EVENT  IS SCHEDULED  TO  BEGIN  THIS  THURSDAY.     250  WINERIES  AND  75  CELEBRITY CHEFS  ARE  EXPECTED  TO  BE  ON  HAND  AT SEVERAL  SITES  IN  AND  AROUND  PEBBLE  BEACH.     THE  MONEY  RAISED  AT  THE  4-DAY EPICUREAN  LIFESTYLE  EVENT  IS  USED  TO HELP  SUPPORT  THE  BOYS  AND  GIRLS  CLUB  OF  MONTEREY  COUNTY,  AND  VOICES  FOR  CHILDREN (WHICH TRAINS  AND  SUPPORTS  VOLUNTEERS  WHO  SUPPORT  AND  GUIDE   CHILDREN IN  THE  FOSTER  CARE SYSTEM,  AS WELL  AS  THOSE  WHO  WISH TO  WORK WITH  C.A.S.A.  OF  MONTEREY  COUNTY), AND  SEVERAL  EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS.      MORE  INFORMATION  CAN  BE FOUND  ON-LINE  AT:

LIBRARY EVENT - 04/02 13 17:15 GE

A SPECIAL EVENT/BOOK SALE IS SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE THIS WEEKEND AT THE JOHN STEINBECK BRANCH LIBRARY IN SALINAS.   THE LIBRARY WAS DAMAGED BY FIRE LAST MONTH AND MANY BOOKS  WERE LOST IN THAT BLAZE. SALINAS FIRE CHIEF ED RODRIGUEZ WILL PARTICIPATE BY READING CHILDREN'S STORIES AT 11:00 A-M IN THE CHILDREN'S SECTION. THERE WILL ALSO BE TABLES SET UP OUTSIDE FOR BOOK SALES. THE MONEY FROM THOSE SALES WILL USED TO HELP REPLACE THE MATERIAL LOST IN THE FIRE. THE EVENT AND BOOK SALE IS SCHEDULED TO RUN FROM 11 A-M TO 4 P-M SATURDAY AT 350 LINCOLN AVENUE IN SALINAS.   FRIENDS OF THE SALINAS PUBLIC LIBRARY IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT AIDS THE SALINAS PUBLIC LIBRARY WITH FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS. A  NEW  PROGRAM  UNVEILED  THIS  AFTERNOON,  THAT MIGHT  INTEREST  THOSE  PEOPLE  WHO  WOULD  LIKE  TO DRIVE  AN  ELECTRIC  VEHICLE.     TESLA  MOTORS HAS  JOINED  FORCES  WITH  2  BANKS  TO  SET  UP  A  LEASE  PLAN FOR  THEIR  MODEL  S SEDANS.     INTERESTED  PEOPLE  WOULD  NEED  TO  COME  UP  WITH  A  10  PERCENT  DOWN  PAYMENT.      A  MID-RANGE  MODEL  S WOULD  THEN  COST  ABOUT  500  DOLLARS PER  MONTH TO LEASE.

BELOW AVERAGE RAINFALL 4/1/13 6:00p DMF

IN A RECENTLY RELEASED REPORT THE CITY OF SANTA CRUZ WAS SHOWN TO BE SITTING AT 58 PERCENT OF NORMAL RAINFALL FOR THE SEASON.   ACCORDING TO THE SANTA CRUZ WATER DISTRICT THIS IS THE 2nd YEAR IN A ROW BELOW AVERAGE RAIN HAS BEEN SEEN.    IF THE LACK OF RAIN CONTINUES THE CITY COUNCIL CAN CALL FOR A WATER SHORTAGE ALERT EFFECTIVE MAY 1st.

THAT RESTRICTS WATER USE TO:

-         LANDSCAPE IRRIGATION EARLY MORNING AND EVENING

-         PROHIBITS NON-ESSENTIAL USE OF WATER

-         HOSE NOZZLE FOR ALL PURPOSES

-         STEPPED UP WATER WASTE ENFORCEMENT

NEW POLICE VEHICLE (MONTEREY) 4/1/13 5:00p DMF

THE MONTEREY COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS ADDED A NEW VEHICLE TO ITS FLEET TO AID IN PATROLLING BEACHES FROM MONTEREY TO SEASIDE.   THE POLARIS RANGER 900 UTILITY TERRAIN VEHICLE WAS CUSTOM BUILT TO LEGALLY ALLOW BOOTH ON-ROAD AND OFF-ROAD DRIVING.    THE NEW VEHICLE AIMS TO HELP REGULATE OFTEN VIOLATED LAWS ON POPULAR BEACHES INCLUDING LATE-NIGHT BONFIRES, DRINKING ON THE BEACH AND MONTEREY COUNTY’S LEASH LAW.
