ROYAL OAKS FIRE - 4/21/13 19:40 PMD

A GRASS FIRE BROKE OUT ON MAHER ROAD ON SATURDAY.   SEVERAL DIFFERENT AGENCIES WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE OF THE FIRE IN BETWEEN PRUNEDALE AND AROMAS. CONTAINING THE FIRE WAS MADE DIFFICULT BY HIGH WINDS, WARM TEMPERATURES AND DRY BRUSH.  FIRE CREWS WERE FINALLY ABLE PUT OUT THE BLAZE, HOLDING DAMAGE TO ABOUT AN ACRE.    THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

COST OF HOMELESSNESS IN GILROY REVIEWED - 04/21/13 16:20 GE

THE HOMELESS ISSUE IN GILROY IS  ABOUT TO BE LOOKED  AT BY GILROY POLICE CHIEF DENISE TURNER. DATA ON THE IMPACT THAT HOMELESSNESS HAS ON POLICE RESOURCES AND THE CITY OF GILROY, WILL BE GATHERED, AND PRESENTED TO THE CITY COUNCIL.       TURNER WILL JOIN IN ON A CITY WIDE STAFF MEETING ON APRIL 23RD TO SHARE THE FINDINGS ON THE GATHERED DATA, AND HOPEFULLY PAINT A CLEAR PICTURE OF JUST HOW THIS TRANSIENT AND HOMELESS PROBLEM IS MONOPOLIZING CITY RESOURCES.

SUMMER BAND LINE-UP - 04/21/13 15:55 GE

FREE MUSIC CONCERTS ON THE BEACH AT SANTA CRUZ BEACH BOARDWALK ARE SCHEDULED TO OPEN ON JUNE 14.  A-P-C, AN ENGLISH POP GROUP FROM THE 80’S WILL DO A DOUBLE BILL TO START OFF THE SUMMER FUN.  Y and T,  WAR, AND FOGHAT ARE A FEW OF THE NEW ACTS TO APPEAR.  BLUE OYSTER CULT, GIN BLOSSOMS, AND THE TUBES, FEATURING FEE WAYBILL,  WILL BE RETURNING FOR ANOTHER SEASON.   THE CONCERTS WILL RUN EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT FROM JUNE 14 TO AUGUST 30TH ,  WITH THE FIRST SHOW  OF THE NIGHT AT 6:30 P-M, AND THE SECOND AT 8:30PM.

SAN ARDO ARREST - 4/21/13 017:10 PMD

A SAN ARDO MAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER AN ELDERLY MAN REPORTED BEING THREATENED.  MONTEREY COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES RECIVED A REPORT FROM A MAN, WHO SAID, A MAN ARMED WITH A KNIFE, ENTERED HIS HOME AND TOLD THE MAN HE WAS GOING TO COME BACK LATER THAT NIGHT AND KILL HIM AND BURN DOWN THE HOUSEDEPUTIES SEARCHED THE TOWN AND FOUND THE SUSPECT SLEEPING IN A CAR, 34 YEAR OLD JERRY ZAVALA WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO MONTEREY COUNTY JAIL ON CHARGES OF CRIMINAL THREATS ,SUSPICION OF BURGLARY AND BRANDISHING A KNIFE.

4 MEN ARRESTED - 4/21/13 016:40 PMD

3 MEN AND A JUVENILE WERE ARRESTED ON AIRPORT ROAD, FRIDAY NIGHT.   WATSONVILLE POLICE INVESTIGATING A REPORT OF A FIGHT AROUND 8:30 P-M DETERMINED 4 SUSPECTS HAD BRANDISHED A WEAPON AND SHOUTED GANG SLOGANS AT 4 MEN.  THE SUPECTS FLED INTO A NEARBY RESIDENCE AND WERE SURROUNDED BY POLICE. A SEARCH TURNED UPA LOADED SHOTGUN, A REVOLVER AND COCAINE FOR SALES. VICENTE ESCTIA VEGA, ANTHONY FLORES VENTURA , ANTIONIO VENTURA, AND THE 17 YEAR OLD WERE ALL ARRESTED AND TRANSPORTED TO SANTA CRUZ COUNTY JAIL AND JUVENILE HALL ON DRUGS AND WEAPONS CHARGES.
