MAN CONVICTED TWICE - 06/18/14 07:29 S.S.

A MARINA MAN, WHO TRIED TO STRANGLE HIS WIFE, AND THREATENED TO KILL HIS WIFE MULTIPLE TIMES, HAS NOW BEEN CONVICTED TWICE ON RELATED CHARGES. THE JANUARY DAY THAT MICHAEL FORTNER WAS FOUND GUILTY OF STRANGLING HIS WIFE (LEAVING HER BLIND IN ONE EYE), HE TURNED TO HIS WIFE (WHO WAS IN THE COURTROOM) AND THREATENED AGAIN TO KILL HER.
FORTNER NOW FACES AN ADDITIONAL SENTENCE OF 16 MONTHS….TO BE SERVED AFTER HE FINISHES HIS CURRENT SENTENCE OF 9 YEARS IN PRISON.

LOCAL SENATOR BILL MONNING’S BILL, REQUIRING WARNING LABELS ON SODAS AND OTHER SUGARY DRINKS, HAS BEEN REJECTED BY A KEY LEGISLATIVE GROUP. THE ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON HEALTH REJECTED SB-1 THOUSAND WITH AN 8-7 VOTE. IT NEED 10 YES VOTES TO PASS THROUGH THAT COMMITTEE. SENATOR MONNING HAD HOPED IT WOULD PASS, BECAUSE HE FELT IT WOULD BE ONE OF THE BEST TOOLS FOR EDUCATING PEOPLE ABOUT THE DANGERS OF SUGARY DRINKS….INCLUDING THE INCREASED RISK OF OBESITY AND DIABETES.
