PEBBLE BEACH FELONY ARREST- 06-30-14 9:30 SG

A MAN HAS BEEN ARRESTED IN PEBBLE BEACH FOR MISDEMEANOR INVASION OF PRIVACY AND FELONY PROBATION. OFFICIALS SAY A FAMILY WAS STANDING AT THE BIRD ROCK ROAD TURNOUT ON 17 MILE DRIVE LAST WEEK, WHEN THEY WERE APPROACHED BY A MAN.    HE WAS CAUGHT TAKING PHOTOS UP A WOMAN’S DRESS.     THE WOMAN’S HUSBAND CONFRONTED THE SUSPECT, TOOK HIS PICTURE, AND NOTED HIS LICENSE PLATE.      DEPUTIES IDENTIFIED THE SUSPECT AS 24-YEAR-OLD JORDAN POLLACCI.     POLACCI WAS BOOKED INTO MONTEREY COUNTY JAIL.

CALIFORNIANS WILL PAY LOWER TAX RATES ON GAS BEGINNING TOMORROW.      THE STATE BOARD OF EQUALIZATION HAS REPORTED, STARTING JULY 1ST, THE EXCISE RATE WILL BE $.36 PER GALLON, DOWN FROM $.39.    THE ADJUSTMENT WILL BE MADE IN ACCORDANCE WITH LEGISLATION THAT SWAPS SALES AND EXCISE TAX ON FUEL.    THE SWAP IS MADE ANNUALLY MEANING MOTORISTS PAY NO MORE OR LESS STATE TAX ON GASOLINE.

STOLEN PROPERTY LOCATED IN GREENFIELD- 06-30-14 7:00 SG

MONTEREY COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES HAVE RECOVERED THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF STOLEN PROPERTY FOLLOWING A TRAFFIC STOP ARREST.      DEREK ROTH AND BENJAMIN LERWILL WERE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY LAST WEEK ON CHARGES INCLUDING VEHICLE THEFT AND POSSESSION OF A LOADED FIREARM IN A VEHICLE.    DURING A SEARCH OF ROTH’S HOME, DEPUTIES RECOVERED OVER $20,000 IN STOLEN PROPERTY, INCLUDING HAND TOOLS, POWER TOOLS, AND ELECTRONICS.     OFFICIALS SAY THE ITEMS MAY BE FROM A RECENT SERIES OF STORAGE LOCKER BURGLARIES

SLNS SALES TAX INIT-6/29/14-2400-PMD

 THE CITY OF SALINAS IS TO PUT A 1 CENT SALES TAX HIKE INITIATIVE ON THE NOVEMBER BALLOTTHE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT HAS NEARLY 2-THOUSAND REQUESTS FOR REPAIRS OF HAZARDOUS  SIDEWALK REPAIRS, BUT WITH AN ANNUAL BUDGET OF 200-THOUSAND DOLLARS THE CITY CAN’T AFFORD TO MAKE ALL THE REPAIRS, AND INSTEAD HAS OFFERED RESIDENTS A 50- 50 SPLIT ON REPAIR COST TO SIDEWALKS IN FRONT OF THEIR HOMES.  IF THE TAX PASSES THE FUNDS WILL BE USED FOR INFRASTRUCTURE REPAIRS.
