The Carmel Unified School Board has announced that the district will not reopen on February 1, 2021, as had been planned.
Previously, the board had approved a reopening plan. It has also submitted a waiver to the Monterey County Health Department. Given the number of cases per 100,000 people in the county, it was determined to push back the district’s reopening plan.
The school board members do not have a new reopening date set.

In response to the pandemic, the Pacific Coast Athletic League Board of Managers has suspended formal league competition in all sports for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.
According to the league, the decision was made out of caution and based upon current COVID-19 restrictions. PCAL says it wants to give all 34 league schools -- in four counties -- the flexibility to provide their students with sports experiences as the restrictions change and their local situation allows.
Schools will still be allowed to hold practices for all sports. For more information, contact Tim McCarthy at (831)-320-9785 or send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

A top California health official said Wednesday that it could take four to five months to complete COVID-19 vaccinations for those aged 65 and older.
That projection is based on the state population being comprised of roughly 6.2 million people age 65 and over. Dr. Erica Pan said the target goal is to vaccinate 70% of those people, or 4.34 million seniors, with two doses.
Pan said the state is receiving about 400,000 doses a week, or 500,000 in a good week. At this rate, it could take until June to inject shots into the arms of seniors.
Vaccinating seniors is crucial as they're disproportionately impacted by the virus. Ages 61 and over account for 65% of all intensive care unit admissions and 83% of all deaths.
