AIR PATROLS CONTINUE IN BIG SUR 04-01-11 06:30 a.v.

In an effort to provide more security to Big Sur residents, while work to restore vehicular access on Highway-1 continues, several CHP officers are being stationed in the area. Officers will be at the multi-agency facility near Big Sur 24-hours a day for emergencies within the closure area. In addition, the CHP Monterey Coastal Division says over-head air unit patrols and helicopter medivac services, are being provided to those affected by the slides. CHP is expected to staff officers out of the multi-agency facility until repairs to Highway-1 have been completed.

IDENTITY RELEASED OF FATAL H&R VICTIM 04-01-11 07:30 a.v.

The identity has been released of a man who was the victim of a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred Sunday in the Live Oak area of Santa Cruz County. Pedro Aparicio was in a lane on 7th Avenue near Rodriguez Street at about 11 p.m., when he was struck by a car. Meanwhile a search for the woman who struck Aparicio continues. Authorities are looking for a dark colored Chrysler 300 sedan with chrome rims or possibly a Dodge Magnum driven by a Latina woman.

KING CITY SHOOTING 04-01-11 07:00 a.v.

No injuries were reported this morning in King City when shots were fired at a car with 2 people inside. Monterey County Sheriff Deputies say shots were fired at 12:20 a.m. from a white Ford pick up truck traveling northbound on Highway 101 between the Broadway Street and Jolon Road exits. 4 bullets hit the car, authorities, meanwhile continue their investigations.

LOW RADIATION LEVELS FOUND IN U.S. MILK 04-01-11 07:00 a.v.

Low-levels of radiation have been found in milk sold from 2 West Coast States. According to Federal and State authorities, who have been monitoring contamination from Japan’s nuclear crisis, traces of Radioactive Iodine 131 were found in a March 25th milk sample from Spokane, Washington, and a similar result was found on March 28th in San Luis Obispo County. Officials say the levels are still 5,000 times below levels of concern, and do not represent a public health threat.

AIR PATROLS CONTINUE IN BIG SUR 04-01-11 06:30 a.v.

As work continues in the Big Sur area to restore vehicular access on Highway-1, law enforcement and emergency services plan to continue patrolling the area through the skies. The CHP Monterey Coastal Division say they have been patrolling the coast from the air between Oxnard and Santa Cruz, looking for vehicles that have gone over the side of the cliff, or searching for people stranded on the ground. Air unit patrols have increased since the March 16th landslide when a 40-foot section of Highway -1 gave way into the ocean between Rocky Point and the Bixby Creek Bridge, then another slide occurred at Alder Creek 28-miles farther south.
