Armed dine-and-dash 08/20/12 6:45p.m. TDH

A santa cruz man was arrested Saturday, after allegedly threatening a waiter with a knife.  50-year-old matthew Miguel turner was taken into custody about a block away from the restaurant on soquel avenue and ocean street.  he had allegedly made menacing comments to the waiter when asked to pay his bill.  He brandished a knife, stabbed at the table, and left the restaurant.   Turner was arrested for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and probation violation.   he was booked into santa cruz county jail.



Sal man to stand trial 08/20/12 6:30p.m. TDH

A salinas man has been ordered to stand trial for attempted murder and other charges.    22-year-old jose de jesus vargas ocegueda is accused of shooting a man in the chest outside of a new year’s party (this past December) on watsonville’s southern circle.   Ocegueda’s girlfriend, margarita ruiz, was ordered Monday to stand trial for being an accessory to the crime.  Both suspects are due back in a santa cruz county courtroom September 4th.



SC Victim IDd 4p.m. 08/20/12 TDH

Authorities in santa cruz have released the identity of a man found dead sunday morning.    43-year-old brad anthony gargas' body was discovered on the rocks below west cliff drive at 11:30 a.m.   the death has not been ruled a homicide, but has been declared "suspicious" by santa cruz police detectives.  the incident remains under investigation.


Motorcyclist hurt in crash 08/20/12 6p.m. TDH

A motorcyclist crashed on highway-101 Sunday afternoon.  The 4:30 p.m. wreck occurred near west laurel drive in salinas.  the lone victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.  The cause of the accident is under investigation.



Vandal flees 08/20/12 5p.m. TDH

A 25-year-old salinas man is being sought after smashing a car’s windshield Sunday afternoon.   Ernest Patrick harris Johnson was reportedly upset at the victim because the person would not tell him where his girlfriend and her children were.  Johnson used a chunk of concrete to cause significant damage to the car, which was parked on the      7-hundred block of las casitas drive.  he fled on a bike after the incident, and was not immediately located.  Johnson IS already on probation, and is now wanted on vandalism charges.
