An inter-agency gang sweep in marina and seaside netted 2 arrests on saturday. 2-other suspects, (both juveniles), were cited and released to their parents following the crackdown. the first arrest came at 4:30 p.m., when 1-adult male was taken into custody for resisting arrest and obstructing officers. several hours later, 19-year-old marina resident robert lopez was arrested for possession of a loaded firearm, (with felony and gang enhancements). both adults were booked into monterey county jail.
an inmate at santa cruz county jail was found saturday morning dead in his bunk. the man's death was reported at 8:45 a.m., and, although jail staff and paramedics attempted to resuscitate the inmate, the attempts were unsuccessful, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. the cause of death is being investigated.
The occupants of 2 vehicles exchanged gunfire in salinas saturday, and although a 3rd, unrelated vehicle was struck by at least 1 round, nobody was reported injured in the incident. the shots were reported at 5:48 p.m., near the intersection of elwood street and diablo circle. the parties had been involved in an argument nearby, which escalated into violence. 4 suspects are believed to have been involved—(2 in each vehicle). 1 of those vehicles was described by police as an older model, gray, toyota camry. the other vehicle being sought is a newer, burgundy, chevy pick-up truck. anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the salinas police department.
a 20-year-old man was assaulted and robbed while walking through salinas' central park on saturday night. 3-suspects approached the victim from behind, and used a knife and stick to assault the man. 1-suspect cut the victim on the cheek with a knife, before the-3 fled with the victim's cell phone and a sony hand held video game player. the victim was treated at a local hospital for his non-threatening injury. the suspects fled toward hartnell college, and were not immediately located. as of early sunday morning, no arrests had been made.
3-people were arrested friday afternoon in santa cruz, after members of the santa cruz police department's street crimes unit came across a stolen vehicle. officers made contact with 33-year-old robert clamon on the 2-hundred block of button street, where they saw clamon dismantling a vehicle. officers determined the vehicle was stolen, and arrested clamon for possession of a stolen vehicle. after discovering property belonging to 24-year-old dominca galpren inside the vehicle, she was arrested nearby, along with a companion, 21-year-old shelby pinther. galpren is facing charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and committing a felony while on court release. pinther is facing drug-related charges. all-3 were booked into santa cruz county jail.
