MONTEREY COUNTY PARDONS 12-26-13 06:30 av

OF THE 127 EXECUTIVE PARDONS GOVERNOR JERRY BROWN ISSUED CHRISTMAS EVE, FIVE WERE FOR PEOPLE PROSECUTED IN MONTEREY COUNTY.   ALL FIVE PARDONED TUESDAY HAD BEEN CONVICTED OF DRUG POSSESSION OR SALES IN THE 1980S OR EARLY 1990S, AND MOST WERE SENTENCED ONLY TO PROBATION OR SHORT PRISON TERMS.   THE FIVE MONTEREY COUNTY PARDONS GRANTED TUESDAY WERE FOR EDITH LOUISE BROWN, VINCENT ANDREW LUCIDO, BONNIE M,ATTHEWS, JOHN PATRICK O’NEIL THE 3RD, AND JULIO CEZAR SANTOS-PARRA. BROWN SAID IN A STATEMENT THAT ALL OF THE 127 PARDONED THIS WEEK HAVE SERVED THEIR SENTENCES AND HAVE BEEN CRIME FREE FOR OVER 10 YEARS, ALSO ADDING THAT THOSE GRANTED PARDONS HAVE LIVED PRODUCTIVE AND LAW ABIDING LIVES FOLLOWING THEIR CONVICTION.

GREENFIELD FATAL SHOOTING 12-26-13 06:00 av

GREENFIELD POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR THE PERSON WHO FATALLY SHOT A MAN AND CRITICALLY INJURED ANOTHER YESTERDAY MORNING. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AROUND 4 A.M. ON HICKS DRIVE AND PARK SIDE COURT.   POLICE SAY BOTH OF THE VICTIMS, WHOSE IDENTITY AND AGES HAVE NOT YET BEEN RELEASED, SUFFERED GUN SHOT WOUNDS TO THE ABDOMEN.   NO SUSPECTS HAVE BEEN FOUND, AND THE MOTIVE FOR THE SHOOTING IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION.    THE INCIDENT MARKS THE FIRST HOMICIDE FOR THE CITY THIS YEAR.

Seaside Parking Ordinance in Effect 12-24-13 18:30 av

A new Seaside ordinance, that prohibits parking unhitched trailers, campers and boats in certain areas, went into effect this week.   The measure prevents the vehicles from parking on streets, alleys, public lots and public rights of way.   City Council members unanimously passed the ordinance on November 21st.  A full copy of the measure is available on the city website at ci.seaside.ca.us.

SOQUEL WATER RATIONING PLAN REVISITED 12-24-13 18:00 av

A RATIONING PLAN IS EXPECTED TO BE CONSIDERED AFTER SOQUEL CREEK WATER DISTRICT OFFICIALS RETURN FROM WINTER BREAK NEXT YEAR.  THE DISTRICT’S BOARD WILL MEET ON JANUARY 7TH AND REVISIT IT’S POLICY OF ENACTING 35% MANDATORY RATIONING FOR CUSTOMERS TO REST OVERTAXED AQUIFERS THAT ARE SUSCEPTIBLE TO SALTWATER INTRUSION.  THE PLAN WAS PREVIOUSLY APPROVED TO ENACT MANDATORY CUTBACKS IN THE ABSENCE OF A NEW SUPPLY SOURCE, HOWEVER OFFICIALS SAY THEY NEED TO FURTHER EXAMINE THE COSTS AND FEASIBILITY OF THE PLAN, INCLUDING WHETHER TO PHASE IN THE RATIONING.

MARSH VISTA TRAIL OPENS 12-24-13 17:30 av

THE CITY OF SANTA CRUZ OPENED A NEW TRAIL THIS WEEK THAT’S PART OF THE ARANA GULCH PROJECT.  PARKS OFFICIALS SAY THE NEW MARSH VISTA TRAIL IS FOR VISITORS TO ENJOY WHILE CONSTRUCTION OF THE MULTI-USE PLAN IS UNDERWAY.  THE QUARTER-MILE TRACK IS A SINGLE TRACK, FOR PEDESTRIANS ONLY.  THE TRAIL’S ACCESS POINTS INCLUDE THE AGNES STREET ENTRANCE AND THE COASTAL PRAIRIE TRAIL EXIT.  GROUNDBREAKING FOR THE ARANA GULCH MULTI-USE TRAIL PROJECT WAS ON NOVEMBER 19TH.   THE PROJECT, WHICH INCLUDES BIKE AND PEDESTRIAN TRAILS ALONG WITH HABITAT PROTECTION, WILL BE BUILT IN 2 PHASES AND WILL TAKE ABOUT A YEAR TO FINISH.
