THE SANTA CRUZ COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE ANNOUNCED RECENTLY THAT FRANKIE TRAQULIANO AYALA HAS PLED

GUILTY TO GANG-RELATED ATTEMPTED MURDER IN THE 2012 STABBING OF HUNTER EVERLY.     EVERLY WAS STABBED FIVE TIMES

NEAR THE MUNICIPAL WHARF IN SANTA CRUZ AND SURVIVED, THE D.A. said, due in large part to the fine work of the paramedics on

scene.     AYALA IS SCHEDULED TO SERVE 85 PERCENT OF HIS STIPULATED SENTENCE OF 20 YEARS, 8 MONTHS IN STATE PRISON.  

HIS SENTENCING HEARING IS SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 5, 2013.

ANIMAL CRUELTY IN WATSONVILLE 09/16/13 17:00 og

Authorities are looking for a group of boys who tried to harm a young cat on Blackburn Court in Watsonville today (Monday).     A woman allegedly witnessed the boys using a knotted shoelace to hang the cat about 4 feet off the ground from a tree branch.    The woman rescued the cat and called Watsonville Police.  The cat was not hurt and was taken to the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. Although the police searched the area, none of the boys were found.      The number of boys and their descriptions were unclear.

A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF ANCHOVIES ARE ATTRACTING RECORD NUMBERS OF HUMPBACK WHALES TO THE CENTRAL COAST.    WHALE WATCH PILOTS SAY THE EPIC NUMBER OF ANCHOVY SCHOOLS HAVE BROUGHT HUNDREDS OF WHALES, ALONG WITH SOME BLUE WHALES, TO THE MONTEREY PENINSULA, NEAR MOSS LANDING AND SANTA CRUZ.    ONE WHALE WATCHING TOUR GUIDE REPORTED AN ANCHOVY SCHOOL TO BE ABOUT 200-FEET DEEP AND OVER A MILE LONG.     OFFICIALS SAY ANCHOVIES USUALLY SHOW UP DURING LATE SUMMER WHEN LOCAL STREAM FLOWS ARE LOW, AND A HIGH SALINITY LEVEL IS PRESENT OF NEAR-SHORE SALTWATER.

$50M IN POT PLANTS SEIZED IN HOLLISTER 09-16-2013 12:30 av

50-MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF POT PLANTS WERE SEIZED AND FIVE PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED LAST WEEK AFTER A SEARCH WARRANT WAS SERVED ON A HOLLISTER RESIDENCE.    ON TUESDAY MULTIPLE AGENCIES SEARCHED THE HOME AND THE ADJOINING LAND ON THE 8-THOUSAND BLOCK OF LOVER’S LANE TO FIND FIVE SUSPECTS ATTEMPTING TO RUN FROM THE PROPERTY.    THE MEN WERE CONTACTED AND TAKEN INTO CUSTODY WITHOUT INCIDENT.   ABOUT 25-THOUSAND MARIJUANA PLANTS WERE ALSO FOUND HIDING AND GROWING IN BETWEEN LEGAL CROPS WERE SEIZED ALONG WITH THREE HIGH POWERED PELLET RIFLES.
