Castroville Burglary, Arrest 04/03/11 10:45p.m. TDH

A 22-year-old man was arrested in Castroville on Saturday for attempted burglary.  Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the 11-thousand 5-hundred block of Main Street, after a resident reported someone trying to come through a window of their house.  Deputies arrested Samuel Rosales at his house, after identifying him as a possible suspect.  In addition to attempted burglary, Rosales is facing a probation violation.   He was booked into Monterey County Jail.

Salinas Firebombing/Arson 04/01/11 6:30p.m. TDH

salinas police are looking for 2-men, who are suspected of fire-bombing a house in salinas last night.  the victim heard a noise at 9:42p.m., opened her front door, and discovered that a molotov cocktail had been thrown at the door.   police report that the liquid had ignited, but the residence did not catch on fire.  no injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred on the 9-hundred block of acosta plaza.  the occupants in the house told officers that none of them belonged to a gang.

S.C. Giants Fan Attcked, in Coma 04/01/11 6:30p.m. TDH

A santa cruz man is in a coma in southern California, after sustaining an attack last night at the baseball game between the Dodgers and the Giants.  A group of dodgers fans attacked 41-year-old Bryan Stow and his friends as they went to their car after the game.   No suspects have been arrested.   Stow’s injuries were so severe that he was placed in a medically induced coma.

hwy-1 Big Sur Re-opens (limited) 04/01/11 5:45p.m. TDH

A section of Highway 1 that was shut down by a massive mudslide at Alder Creek is now open to motorists for 12 hours a day.  State transportation officials said Friday the mudslide caused by heavy rain Sunday on Highway 1 at Alder Creek has been cleared enough to allow two-way traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. It will stay closed from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The highway remains closed in both directions about 50 miles north of Big Sur at Rocky Creek, where a half-mile section of the freeway collapsed during a storm two weeks ago.  Pedestrians and bicyclists are being escorted across the slide area at 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.  In Humboldt County, Highway 101 near Garberville is closed in both directions because of a massive slide there Wednesday.

Lake Nacimiento Declared Safe, Re-opens 04/01/11 5p.m. TDH

Water officials in san luis obisbo county have lifted water-use restrictions at lake nacimiento.  The popular lake had been closed since a sewage pipe underneath it ruptured on tuesday.  After testing showed normal bacteria levels, officials re-opened the lake today, calling it safe for drinking, recreation, swimming, and fishing.
