Westcliff detour- sink hole 3/1/14-1937-PMD

THE SANTA CRUZ POLICE DEPARTMENT CLOSED A STRETCH OF WEST CLIFF DRIVE, SATURDAY.  THE CLOSURE CAME AFTER POLICE RESPONDED TO A 10 A-M REPORT OF A BLOW HOLE OPENING NEAR THE SIDE WALK IN THE AREA OF WOODROW AND WEST CLIFF.  OFFICERS ON SCENE FOUND A CAR SIZED SINK HOLE TO THE OCEAN BELOW. A DETOUR HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED WHILE ENGINEERS PERFORM ROADWAY SAFETY INSPECTIONS.

Grass fire-2/28/14-1810-PMD

DESPITE RECENT RAINS MONTEREY AREA FIREFIGHTERS BATTLED A GRASS FIRE YESTERDAY.  THE FIRE BROKE OUT IN A FIELD NEAR OLMSTEAD ROADAND VIA MALPASO ABOUT 2 P-M AND BURNED 3 ACRES BEFORE FIRE CREWS EXTINGUISHED THE BLAZE . THE FIRE IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN STARTED BY MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT.

WATSVL MN BAIL RSD-2/28/14-1700-PMD

 THE WATSONVILLE MAN WHO WAS ARRESTED THIS WEEK ON ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES HAD HIS BAIL RAISED.  20 YEAR OLD JOEL SOLORZANO, WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AT AROUND 9:30 A-M AT HOME ON COOLIDGE AVENUE.  SOLORZANO IS ALLEGED TO HAVE SHOT A 13 YEAR OLD BOY IN THE FACE ON FEBRUARY 14TH, ONLY BLOCKS AWAY FROM WHERE HE WAS ARRESTED.  MEANWHILE HAD HIS BAIL RAISED BY A SANTA CRUZ COUNTY JUDGE FROM 400-THOUSAND DOLLARS , TO HALF A MILLION DOLLARS. SOLORZANO TURNED DOWN OFFERS OF A PUBLIC DEFENDER, STATING HIS FAMILY WAS LIKELY TO HIRE A PRIVATE DEFENSE ATTORNEY.  SOLORZANO IS SCHEDULED TO BE BACH IN COURT WEDNESDAY.

LOCAL  POLICE CHIEF  HAS  BEEN  NAMED  THE  2014  NATONAL  POLICE  CHIEF  OF THE YEAR.  ANONYMOUS  CRIME  REPORTING  RESOURCE  “WeTIP”  SAYS  HOLLISTER  POLICE  CHIEF  DAVID  WESTRICK  HAS  SHOWN  EXTRAORDINARY  EFFORTS,  AND  PROVIDED  OUTSTANDING  SERVICE,   IN  THE  FIELD  OF  CRIME PREVENTION.   CHIEF  WESTRICK  IS  SCHEDULED  TO RECEIVE  THE  2014  POLICE  CHIEF OF  THE  YEAR  AWARD  APRIL  11TH  IN  SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA,  AT  THE  41ST  ANNUAL NATIONAL CONFERENCE.

SANDBAGS OFFERED IN HOLLISTER - 02/28/14 08:50 S.S.

THE  CITY  OF  HOLLISTER  HAS  SANDBAGS  FOR  PEOPLE  WHO  NEED  THEM.    THE  SANDBAGS  CAN  BE  PICKED  UP  WEEKDAYS  AT  THE  SERVICE  CENTER  ON  THE  13  HUNDRED   BLOCK   OF  SOUTH  STREET  (BETWEEN  7:30  A-M  AND  4:30 P-M);  AND  ON  THE  WEEKENDS  SANDBAGS  CAN  BE  FOUND  (ON  A  SELF-SERVE  BASIS)  AT  FIRE  STATION  #2,  WHICH  IS  LOCATED  AT  1-THOUSAND  UNION ROAD.    THEY  ARE  FREE, HOWEVER  PEOPLE  ARE ASKED  TO  ONLY  TAKE  WHAT  THEY  NEED,  SO  THAT EVERYONE  WHO  NEEDS  THEM  CAN  GET  SOME.
